I had the worst day on the river today.

Today started out great. The sun was out. The wind wasn't that bad. Broke my dry spell of not catching anything in almost a month. Life was good. The day was getting late and I needed to head back to my car and I had a 2 mile paddle back down river. I was getting close to my destination and had to go through some rapids. I picked a line and went down the rapids. As soon as I hit the end of the rapids I went nose first into a rock I didn't see until it was too late and flipped over. I lost my rod and reel that I had just bought. I lost my anchor I had just bought. The seat for the kayak was sunk and I couldn't retrieve it. Lost my phone but managed to keep my backpack with my keys and wallet luckily and 80% of my tackle.

I have been hit with a streak of bad luck over the past month with fishing. Weather it being losing tackle I had just got or an anchor. I just feel hopeless and defeated. I love fishing and getting out but I think "God" or whatever just wants to mess with me. I think I'm done fishing. I just have nothing but bad luck. I hope you guys find joy in kayak fishing as I once had. Maybe I'll get back into it eventually. Maybe not. Good luck everyone. I wouldn't wish what happened to me on anyone who is serious about fishing. Peace and much love.

I think you should Thank God for getting out of that river without getting hurt or worse.
Maybe your just not meant to fish from a kayak. IDK
Sorry about your accident and your lost stuff but your stuff is replaceable. Glad your OK.

That’s not the “worst” day you could have had. You’re telling the story right? Keep at it and things will get better with experience. The day you had today was the best experience ever.

This is why PFD is always a good idea. I understand your frustration. I have a kayak that I don't use anymore. I have been working on a design for a ramp to get it on my suburban but haven't come up with a good one yet. I'm 75 now and after a couple of trips my shoulder hurts all the time so I parked it. I still have several shore spots not to mention miles of surf fishing spots so I still fish just not from the kayak. Maybe you can find a shore spot that would be safer for you and your tackle.

Everything you do in life comes through experience. ALL of us on the stage here have had similar experiences of bad luck just not in a kayak maybe. The point is, we lived through the experience to be here, RIGHT?
LEARN from this experience and try not to make the same mistake again. That's how we manage to do the things we do, by learnin from our mistakes and tryin not to repeat them.
The unlucky ones didn't live through the first mistake, you did. Just Sayin.

Time heals a lot of wounds. Hopefully, it will heal you too. Maybe then you can start slowly to get your confidence back and enjoy fishing from your yak again. Glad you were not hurt.

Glad you’re ok!! Maybe consider Jon boat instead of kayak. Lake instead of river. Blessings on future fishing.

Sorry you had a bad experience, but it sounds like the problem was running rapids in a kayak, not with fishing.

Happy your still here to tell the story but it's all replaceable! Give it a few months over the winter and come spring maybe you'll feel differently. I kayak fish each week in Havasu which has no rapids but hit some wind with whitecaps at times but never have come close to tipping it.

Hi Crim. Sorry about the the bummer losses but all good that you OK. When something like fishing, gives you pleasure and satisfaction, rather than abandon that joy, would suggest find your way around the obstacles. Maybe the shore or small rowboat might be just what the pleasure doctor ordered. Wear out, don't rust out. All the best.
