Just a quick Bio..Fishing for 66 Years..
Fresh and Saltwater.
Mostly Salt but working a Lake or a Pond from the shoreline is Fun.
Feeling a Large Mouth Bass Choke on a Lure or picking up an artificial worm is a thrill.
All year round Here. Jan and Feb included and I love it.
To the Point..I have spots that produce Stripers all year Round ..Lucky me.
This time of year is a Blast.
Last week My friend and I discovered a Spot on the East River that was chock full of White Perch and seabass.
So two days later we dug up some Worms ( Area 51..classified info :) )
Went to the same spot and .....
Casting Just 30 feet.... from7:30 Pm to 1:30 am..... Striper Heaven a Number of keepers and schoolies.
They were snacking on the Perch and Seabass.
It's good to be a Fisherman.

Hope You enjoyed this

Striper season is closed in Back bays and rivers in NJ after December 31. Not allowed to target them. Ok to catch them on the beach ( ocean) though they are pretty much all schoolies . Still fun on light tackle.
Good winter fun catching the white perch on light tackle and good eating too.

Really? I lived in Manhattan 15yrs and never knew. We always went across the GW Bridge to Alpine to fish.

Nice catching Steve! Fishing has to be one of the most satisfying of all sporting passions. I suppose I could be biased though, as that is my main hobby! Glad to hear about your lifelong passion and history. Keep it up!

Both the east and west sides of Manhattan host stripers. Conservationists and environmentalists stopped the construction of an interstate highway on the west side because they were able to prove to a federal court's satisfaction that it was an enormous newly hatched haven for the fish.
On the Brooklyn side there is the old Navy Yard and the long closed Domino Sugar plant. All five boroughs have great fishing locations. City Island in the Bronx can be very rewarding.

I guess I just figured the water was too dirty when I lived there 1980-2000. Back then my Uncle let me use his oceanfront condo on Carolina Beach, NC for two weeks in Sept. every year. Did all my fishing there.

Was "fishing" for other things back then in my wild youth!

Just fishing locally.
Casting out no more than a short 30 feet.
Between E20st and E16st before the Con Ed buildings.
There was some structure nearby.

Steve... Very generous of you to reveal this info. I would never have suspected urban NY had this.
