Well I’ll be damned. I fell for that hook, line, and sinker.

Sorry, y’all. I was the first in my family to graduate from high school, so my hackles get raised sometimes when it comes to assumptions about people’s intelligence.

No reason to be sorry.
It looks like your heart is in the right place.

Reminds me of when a McD competitor offered 1/3 pound burgers but had to discontinue because customers thought that McD 1/4 pounders were bigger.

At one time they did and you would not believe some of the post some of them were like this person must be from another planet a lot of folks fell for it and made rude replys at the post a bunch of us sounded them on it and the Stage finally put the disclaimer that you can read on their post saying that they are just stirring the pot to recieve imput from us like I said in the beginning a lot of us fell for it and I'm talking folks that have been on this Stage for a long time no need to feel bad 😁👍

Come on, guys. Play nice. How about we answer the poster's real question. Can you successfully use a jig that is heavier than your pole's rating?

I don't know the answer, as I'm kinda new to anything but fly fishing and spinners.

Half oz is not heavier than a rod rating of 5/8

I understand that a 1/2 oz is lighter than 5/8 oz, but I also understand the purpose behind the original post. The man was asking a simple question and was looking for help, not ridicule.

The guys not real go to the original post and click on the link in the bottom left hand corner it explains everything and why they do it in detail

I went through the archives and the earliest FS Digest postings in 2018 to the present have the by-lines. Also back in those days FS Digest posts were mostly YT vids of fishing related tips. Maybe the by-lines were just made up but some of those posts have live photos of folks holding up their catch.🤔

Yah, Ron620DVS picked up that mantle of YT video tips. I really looked forward to his posts and learned quite a bit from the vids. Sadly I believe he decided to leave the stage around the end of summer.

Okay, here’s a spin on the question. If you have a half ounce jig, and put a creature bait or some other plastic on it, now how much does it weigh and can you use that rod to cast it and fish with it. I wonder if that was the question not what’s the math on is a half between a quarter and five eights.

I always wondered that myself I think the rod rate gives you the extremities between the least and the most. I usually try to stay in the middle of the range. The numbers are fine when using hard baits but you cant very well weight every bait your throwing🇺🇸😀👍🐟🎣
