The old ones are reliable Brad, but getting parts for any old motor is not easy.

Fred, I’ve got an 18 hp from the late 70’s and it still runs well but I’m getting a bit spooked when it will need new parts. It doesn’t see much use lately because most of the lakes I fish are electric only.
Bk,mine is a 68 and I love it. I stripped it and rebuilt it from the prop up and getting some parts was a challenge but worth it
I should have said mine is a merc also
You husband purchased a boat in an unbelievable sky rocketing used boat market. Yes, prices are ridiculous, and so is just about everything these days. But if it eases your pain, that’s a great motor and will serve your needs. I think hubby did good 👍
Nice looking looking 🚢 . I believe Mercury bought out Johnson
For mold on the upholstery go to the dollar store &
get Cloraleen. It’s easy to use & WORKS!!! Enjoy your boat!!!
nice ride fish
look for a product called ALAUMABRITE
maybe spelled alumabright

A Sun Tracker Fishing Barge Pontoon, I think a 2004. I got to say I can't believe the price they get for these things! My Husband was saying because it has a brand new motor and Trailer , but geesh it's a Mercury not an Evinrude I still think it is ridiculous!
And what I can't believe is the shape the dealer sold it to my husband in. All the seats were badly molded and filthy, everything was filthy. The carpet looks dry rotted on top of the live wells and in 2 places on the carpet is 2 long lines of where something rusted sat. The forward throttle sticks and the cigarette power outlet doesn't work even though my husbands volt meter says its supposed to be working. The aluminum trim all around is so badly oxidized I have already bought about 3 different things to try out on it. Already bought a new top and boot for it and someone before us used ..of all colors some God awful Green duck tape to tape where the seams are coming undone on the fishing chairs! Maybe men are not so picky but for this kind of price I'd be ashamed to sell it in that sort of shape! Don't get me wrong. LOVE The boat...just saying...I bought a 2003 BMW Z4 Roadster , after that should have been fatal Mustang wreck I had, one owner, 7000 miles and the thing looks brand spanking new! Anyways thanks for letting me vent here LOL and maybe someone can tell me some products I can buy that they have had great success with to help with my makeover of the cleaning of the aluminum trim etc! Blame it all on me as I am the one that just had to have a fishing pontoon boat! Of coarse the dealer did his best to sell my husband a new regular Pontoon, not made for fishing... Huh, What?? I know right!? LOL And when he saw my husband wasn't gonna bite on this bait this boat just happened to appear and was found to be on the back of the lot!

Must of took it to Glammer Shots. Looks good to me. Do the seats need cleaning or repaired??
Get some Mother's polish. It does a good job on stainless.
If you were constantly getting your living room carpet wet, had people with wet feet tracking on it, spilled a few fish guts on it occasionally, you might find your sixteen, seventeen year old carpet needed a little tlc or even replacing. A rule of thumb for motors is you're gonna pay about a hundred bucks a horse for them. Merc's are fine engines and Bass Pro is the world's largest dealer, you're in good hands with them, generally. Sun, water and the elements are going to take their toll on upholstery, so get the seats redone or get new ones. There really aren't many showroom ready near twenty year old boats! But aluminum is a great metal. All you have to do is look at the trucking industry and see how well it responds to getting cleaned up. Those guys make that stuff glisten and shine under worse conditions than even boats are put through. You're going to love this boat when you get her cleaned up with a couple of improvements and updates. She has probably earned all her marks and scars and now she deserves a loving hand at the helm and a dry berth to lay her head. Give her a sweet name and a kind future and she'll take care of the rest.
