When fly fishing, while wading, I very seldom spend over 2 - 3 min. at a spot without an inclining of trout being present. Depending on how good the water looks.
When I was a kid, anyone asking what time it was, and your question is a variation, the response was always; "Why, are you taking medcine??" But a more appropriate response might be, Stay as long as you can, but shifting spots is different and that is a case of personal preference. I will usually cast a lure until I decide it is time to move, then cast a few times more, just to be sure! There is no corret answer, personal preference. Just Sayin...RJS

I always stay till I feel like leaving whether I’m catching fish or not.
This is fishing, not working! Stay as long as you possibly can, until you are sure to get a scolding from the house frau, Who knows, that last few minutes will be when the fish start biting. Just Sayin...RJS

It’s my opinion that you should ALWAYS fish. Whether it’s for dinner, for sport, or for the souls of your fellow man, you should be fishing, 24/7/365.
I’ve heard it said that a day spent fishing adds a day to your life. If true, a real fisherman could live forever !!

Nobody can answer that question for you. But common sense would dictate when you should try another spot. Would I stay in one spot for 2 hours to try to catch a fish? Absolutely not. But that’s just me...
Sounds like the question you should be asking yourself is why you aren’t catching anything, usually. There aren’t any fish there? Your not using the right lure or bait? Your not using the right technique? The first aren’t relevant because you were doing everything right but gave up too soon.move every so often, change lures every so often. Change baits or techniques, depth etc. . Change time of day. Can’t find the patience for all that? Find a different hobby. Tight lines!

I kayak fish 1-2 days a week from 7-2 and usually get out of the boat once or twice to stretch. But I go days at times without catching anything either but I still love it with great weather and getting away from it all. One more cast and you never know. I have a fishfinder so I know at times they're there! Big fish grow big for a reason,.
I'm there for fun and relaxation. If the weather is decent and I have my tobacco for my pipe or cigars, I see nothing against sitting for four or five hours. Usually Mother Nature calls and I have to yield my spot on the pier. Time really isn't as important as how chill I am.
if shore fishing be very quite, fish can feel vibration thru the ground, you don,t get a bite in 20/30 minutes move and repeat, remember QUITE
Depends on whether i am going fishing or catching
