What do i do when i get a 4 pound bass on crappie gear (it’s happened). a gator when cat fishing. a 7 pound bass when finesse fishing.
What do i do when my gear is small but the fish is big. also if i try to tire out the fish by letting it rip drag it will get stuck. thanks!!!!

I once was fishing 🎣 in the San Francisco Bay and I and a friend were practicing what I called building your chops we were using 20# line with 7ft rods and catching 50 plus lb stingrays use your drag and play them out until they are tired it’s either that or up your equipment to heavy gear and expect to catch the larger fish when fishing for the little guys
Put your left boot on the gunnel, open your right eye more while closing your left eye, open your mouth by curling up your upper lip, tilt your head north, keep elbows to your side and........
hope the alarm ⏰ goes off. OoZzz!!
I regular been catching 3-5 lb bass in grass on my ultralight rig while trying to catch crappie. 6-8 lb cats while bream fishing on the same set up. Only lost a couple to line popping 8’ rod helps play them out I would rather catch big fish on lighter rigs than horse em in with a heavier rig just is not as fun to me. That’s why they sell different size rigs
Unless you are in a tournament, where time is important, why not enjoy the fun of planing a fish rather than just horsing them in as quickly as possible. Yes, you may lose one once in a while, but so what, its the fun that counts.
Last week hooked in to a nice salmon while using a swim bait . Hooked it on its side 12 pound mono . 7 foot medium high action rod . Had it to the bank 3 times good size . Last pull snapped my rod . Was a great fight .

Great problem to have- catching too big of fish.
Someone told me of a great eye-opening experiment. Get your crappie rod and attach a three pound bag of sugar to the line and try to lift the sugar off the floor. If your knots are good and your line is fresh, you will be amazed at how much pressure you can put on the line. I am not sure this corresponds to a real life big bass situation but it does give you some idea on what kind of pressure your rig can take.
Cheers
Hold on and go "wheee..." . Enjoy the ride.
Fishing yesterday with my ultralight 8’ 6# line caught this 8 lb fat channel cat and then this 10# drum fun fun fun
Nice fish....
Thx 4 d pics
