I'm not familiar with your area but any dam tailrace fish close to the same. depending on what you are fishing for the boils in a tailrace area normally hold the greatest concentration of fish. Stripe, White bass and Hybrids will be hold very close to the main current in the boils. Smallmouth Largemouth and Catfish will hold in the eddies or current breaks close to the boils. Casting a heavy 1/2 oz white grub or greater depending on the current flow out into the boils then retrieving at a slow stead rate should find some fish. If you want to find bass, work the current breaks, seams and eddies close to the boils should find them. Work the same grub in these areas by casting in and allow it to sink close to or to the bottom. a quick snap will get it going then retrieve the same, trying to bump rocks as you go but fast enough to not get hung up. If you're in a boat and Walleye are in your river, find the first couple deep holes below the dam and work these areas with a jig and minnow heavy enough to get to the bottom. These areas drift with the current and bounce the jig off the bottom by vertical jigging below the boat. Hope this helps some, working current you'll probably lose a few jigs until you get the hang of things. Good luck.

I'm on Tim's Ford lake which is about 30 miles from the Alabama state line. Bristol is in north east TN. basically the other end of the state from me. Enjoy your visit, that part of Tennessee is beautiful and maybe you'll still get the fall color changes.

lvey I fish in the Ohio river below the power dam when I visit my son and found that spoons work well. In the deep holes I use up to a 1 ounce spoon to get close to the bottom. Got luck with your fishing

A spoon should be great for that application, I used to fish below Guntersville and Pickwick Dams in north Al. the water isn't that deep there and current at times isn't that strong. There was one deep hole below guntersville we fished for Sauger and the 3/4 oz, Baby blue craft hair jig and minnow was the ticket for big ones there. Like many other places it was overfished and people taking 5 to 10 times their limit killed the fishing in that spot. Sad I spent some great days fishing with my Dad there. He loved the Sauger from the Tennessee river and the few years before he passed we didn't have any luck there. He always said he wished we could get in them like like we did when I was young but never did. It always seemed the worst weather we fished in, cold and cloudy the better they hit.

Start with a pinky jig or yellow jig. Fish the eddy’s and fish any pools right after fast water. Cast into the fast water and let the jig go with the current into the pool. You can also try a white mister twister. Just keep it slow. Let the current work the jig. Have fun!

I failed to ask if you were fishing for steelhead which would call for spoons, spinners or salmon eggs…
