Cut bait works the best for me. Whatever you can easily catch by where you're fishing, blue gills chubs carp, cut it up and put it on the hook. If you have to buy it, I always got fresh mackerel - firm, oily and bloody - cats love it. Or frozen anchovies - but tie them on with miracle thread.
Buy dead chubs from your bait shop and let them sit out and get ripe overnight. squeeze the guts for extra scent. use a 4 aught hook long shank and hook through the skull and tail.
You cant go wrong with using what the natural bait fish is indigenous for that particular body of water. Usually shad or skipjack works well by using a throw net. Keep recycling the water in your live well as fresh cutbait is the best...
I just ran across an outdated can of biscuits in my refrigerator and am going to tear them apart and roll into small 1/2 inch or so balls with a small amount of minced garlic embedded in them. Hopefully they will work as catfish bait or any other fish that enjoys garlic and bread dough.

I second that, I caught my first ever flathead three days ago using indigenous cut bait. I was truly amazed.

Ken that sounds like carp bait in the making. Good luck.
I’ve caught them on Ivory soap!
Triple S is the old Sonny's and it works good but the best I have every seen is a new bait on the market by Danny King called Suki. It's made out of glizzard shad
Went there. Can’t believe how many are on it. Keep going back to see more. Thanks for the tip

Just finished making a batch of punch bait using some 24 year old cheese. Almost to the bottom of the last 5 gal pail. Be no more when it's gone. I'd say at 68 I don't have another 24 years to age another bucket. Gonna test this batch tomorrow good Lord willing. The Mississinewa spillway and I have a date. Please everyone wish me luck. God knows we need some. My wife was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer. I've gotta get out of this house for awhile. I'm going crazy watching the best part of my life waste away. I'd say she's the one that needs some good luck and all the prayers ya'll are willing to say on her behalf. Her name is Judy. We been married 38 years. Sorry for the ramble.
Here in North eastern Oklahoma I have found that katoppa worms are the best
My prayers are with you and your family I know how hard it is to have to deal with that
Bluegill hands down if your looking for big cats or even 5lb with 4" bream .
