Lead prices, like everything else, have gone through the roof. Back in the day, we used old sparkplugs, rusty nuts and bolts, and pieces of scrap metal when fishing in the rocks, or over wrecks.
From what I understand, we no longer have any lead smelting in the US because they were shut down by the $#@!^%$#@. This has made lead much more expensive. I've thought about making little bags from onion sacks and filling them with rocks to use as weights on a Santee rig fir cats at Conowingo dam where the bottom is scoared to bedrock.
