I am from Tennessee and used to fishing the lakes and rivers there. I have been trying to fish in Cali and I have used hard bait, night crawlers, mackerel, trout bait and cat bait prepackaged.
I have caught one big brim (bluegill here), but the fish jump out of the water around me. Especially, the bass. I can't find the right spinner bait, and I have tried spoon, rooster tails and road runners. Any specific bait or pointers would be helpful. These lakes do not have still water. I have tried bobbers and bottom fishing. At a loss. Thanks

Weightless Senko type worm, Texas rigged.
They will work coast to coast. Watermelon green with red flake, or my favorite, June Bug. Give it a shot. Tight lines.
That's for the Bass anyway.

Sinkos worked for me.had to use sinkos due crawler shortage and got a lot of bites just on watermelon green.
Was the biggest of six I landed

Would agree with Fred. My personal favorite that I have caught many bass and some large ones on is Yamamoto Grn/Pumpkin, thin 5" Wacky rigged weightless or drop shot. Texas rigged is right behind. Will gaurantee it Blue

I have read several reports that huge swim baits are particularly effective. Might be worth a shot..
Talk to dome locals !!Casitas is a lake I have fished ! You need a good fish finder here. The Bays and Points . are good for the Spring Bite .. Winter shits everything down practically.

Welcome to CA Central Coast bass fishing. I have just moved down from the Bay area spend most of my time on the California Delta but have begun fishing Lake Cachuma. I agree the best way to learn a fishing area is connecting with locals (if you don't mind splurging on a local fishing guide) that is the quickest way to learn a lake.
We are in fall transition so slowing down your approach with Senkos or Jigs in 3 basic colors watermelon green, redfleck colors or june bug will catch fish. Crankbaits, chatterbaits, swimbaits and lipless cranks in shad or trout colors can be effective in the early morning near the shore as bass move up into the shallow water. Lots of underwater structure in Cachuma a fish graph helps to identify hangouts and drop offs.
.
Good Luck
