I'd say a 8 lb would be fine. I use 2 of them on my boat when needed.

As slim says, depends on the current and how much drag the hull has in the water. No easy answer

Depends on conditions. There's a lot of good information available about anchoring systems. Doing a little homework could save your life.

@1940. And some of these PNW rivers, especially the Columbia, are notorious for dragging boats under that have a too short anchor line.
In a canoe or kayak, on a lake, a simple grappel or mushroom anchor is fine. Lightweight and easy to set or retrieve.

Right on cross cut been there and see it happen on out going tide skagit river 14 ft aluminum
