Launch ramp was full of all the locals, probably wondering what dummy would be launching this morning in 14 degrees š„¶
Interesting day. Water dropped to a surface temp of 51. 30 ft plus water visibility. Probably saw more free swimming smallmouth than Iāve ever seen, sometimes as many as a couple dozen. Didnāt seem to matter what I threw at them, as they completely ignored everything. But did manage about a dozen or so that made the morning. Winter is practically here, as night time temps are dropping in the teens. Tight lines to all.
Montana: I cannot tell for sure, but it looks like the red cow on the right has been branded COW! I would have thought that all the folk in your part of the country would have known the species and sex of those animals! But you have caught some beautiful fish, congratulations! Just Sayin...RJS

No RJS itās branded with
COLD
Well, that is original. There are a lot of ranchers who brand COW so city folks wont shoot them thinking they are deer, elk or such. Just Sayin...RJS
Now I know why you don't smile, your face is frozen.

Lol. No, but with the price of beef, wouldnāt mind taking one home š. They were the only signs of life at ramp other than me. They all gave me that look, ālike really humanā¦ your going in the waterā !
Great story JB! You are one hardy fellow! Even avid steelheaders would have probably stayed home snug in a warm bed! Glad that your perseverance still paid off with a dozen bass coming up to meet you! Sounds like Winter is definitely tapping at your door out there!

Noā¦ Iām up here in Whitefish, which is pretty much the northwest. It apparently did snow to the southeastā¦ but just some rain and wind. But as mentioned, it did drop some cold nighttime temps. Just an unusual amount of really nice smallmouth swimming in 20 ft in groupsā¦ and wouldnāt even turn a head at my presentations. The dozen or so fish I caught all spit up small 3 inch fish, but I never could retrieve any to inspect. Those spit up fish were pretty digested so Iām thinking they fed actively deeper in the night. Metered a ton of trout & Kokanee deep, but no bass out there.
