The Sac is a long river and has a lot of fish. Your question is too General to give a realistic answer. Use Google and visit bait shops for specific info.

Just caught my first steel head. 20-25 pounds. I had a barbless hook on him. I got him to shore and the person i was with grabbed the line and the steelhead got away!! I caught him at0655 hrs and didnt have my net to swoop him up😌

Are you sure it was a steelhead and not a salmon? I don't think the steelhead get that big in the Sacramento river.
However, I don't fish for them very much , so what do I know. Sure wish you would have had your net. Maybe next time. Good luck and tight lines.

I agree with Saw. If you were fishing the Sacto. River and you were pretty accurate on the weight of the fish, it was almost certainly NOT a Steelhead. Most likely a fresh run Salmon. Where on the Sacto. were you fishing and what were you using? As I recall the Calif. State record for Steelhead is 27lb.4 ounces. Caught on the Smith River.
