I’ve got some Fenwick HMG’s that I believe are comparable to St. Croix’s Premier series for a few less $.

Egghead has been MIA for awhile, but there are a few rod builders on the Stage as well as he.

Within my budget, there may be, but you will be hard pressed to beat their warranties. Their lower end rods are manufactured in Mexico, but are still very fine rods. The higher end rods are manufactured here in WI and are outstanding.

I find the Dobyns Fury line of rods very comparable. I have two or those as well as a very 6’10” light very fast action St Croix. My Dobyns rods are 7’ medium (Spinning rod 703) my bait casting rod is a 7’ medium heavy (735). Both have fast action tips and are very sensitive. Since all three rods are different in their specs it is hard to compare. But my go to rod is usually the Dobyns 703 except for really finesse situations I may go with the St Croix. Can’t go wrong with either. Both spinning rods are light but I have a relatively heavy Penn battle lll DX 3000 on my Dobyns compared to a much lighter Pluger President on my St Croix so again the actual fishing weight is not comparable.

I like my Dobyns as well as my St Croix rods. I once ordered an expensive G Loomis rod
and one guide was out of line, so I returned it.

I think there's a lot of snobbery in rod selection; Bass Pro rods are plenty good for most
applications, in my opinion, from 65 years of serious fishing.

I really like using my G-Loomis Steelhead rod to fill the finesse bite of deep water slabs

I own 4 St. Croix rods. I bought them in the 90's and still have them all. Broke one landing a salmon and they replaced it for $10. All have a lifetime warrantee. Most of the top rods have a 25 year warrantee. I didn't think it mattered but I'm still using them after more than 25 years.
