In Oregon you can shoot and kill if your life or family and property is at risk due to a loser trying to hurt or steal from you. That why I think it’s stupid when people here cry about Gun rights etc. If stupid people never got their hands on weaponry laws wouldn’t evolve to where they are.

People have shot someone on their Porch here ( outside their home) and never spent a night in jail. They have to assist the police with a report but they don’t get incarcerated like some places. If someone was stupid and brandishing or just decided to shoot someone then they do deserve their sentences.

That’s called the “Castle Law”. You can only shoot a person if you feel they are going to kill you or your family according to the law. If you think you can just shoot and kill someone there for stealing from you there might be a little surprise waiting for you in court. Those cases don’t go un-investigated. It’s more than a simple little trip to assist an officer with some paperwork. You should, probably, not recommend people killing people in Oregon for stealing. There’s a reason few states allow the castle law. It’s not smart. Especially now days with states like Oregon that are jam packed with nut jobs packing guns.

There is a solution to things like that. Don’t stay where life sucks so bad. Another way to avoid needing to shoot people is don’t surround yourself with people or places that may cause the need.

You could become a Law Enforcement Agent then you could shoot people if you feel the need.

So true. That’s why I’m so thankful to have left Oregon.

Presently 38 states follow the Castle Doctrine with stand your ground laws

Yes, she would have shot him more times, but her weapon was a six shot revolver! That is why I have a semi-automatic with 16 round clip. Her robber deserved what he got! Just Sayin...RJS

I carry a revolver, don't need more than 6 shots, or I shouldn't be carrying....also I don't have brass(DNA) left behind....

only in Texas in my state someone can walk into your home lift your TV off the wall and walk out your door and unless they physically threaten you and your life is in danger if you shoot them you will be the one that is tossed in jail and sued for all you have by the family. Yes Texas has it right stealing from someone is stealing part of their life that they have given up working so they can get it.

Your lucky to live in Texas in California you would be on death row but before they exacute you the family would have sued you for 20 million which you would have lost and then they exacute you

Good luck to that family trying to collect that $20M, especially if the person they sued is getting executed !

I guess it depends on where you look. I found 23 states that follow the castle Doctrine, some not real close, some with many variations and the rest excluding 8 follow the Stand Your Ground law. Two separate laws. The remaining states are under jurisdiction of current law. Too many places to research and that’s why I don’t spend much time on the internet. One can find anything they chose to find if they look hard enough. 🤷‍♂️

Oregon is the same way. I know of a few people who said they shot and killed someone because they feared for their life with an intruder. It don’t fly as simple as just shoot somebody that enters your home. That’s would leave it wide open for people to just shoot and kill at will and get away with “I thought I was gonna die”. Even Oregon is a little smarter than that. I lived there for 25 years and I can tell you, no place just lets people kill people without question or severe investigation and more times than not the situations are found to be murder or homicide. Very few situations are that a person just kills someone and “assists” the officer with a little paperwork and it’s forgotten. Even with the Castle Doctrine in place.

One site says two states and the next site says all 50🤷‍♂️ The “Stand Your Ground” laws are to protect you outside or away from your home.
