Anyone ever used Shimano's rod warranty?

One of my Shimano rods snapped near the tip while I was casting and I am wondering if it would be covered under their warranty. The rod is under a year old but the language in their warranty is confusing.

"This limited one year warranty only covers damage to the rod resulting from a nonconformity in material or workmanship. Damage caused by misuse, abuse or tampering with the rod by other than normal use of the rod; or any non-conformity or damage resulting from repairs performed other than by Shimano or an authorized Shimano service provider is not covered. "

If the rod broke while casting wouldn't that be normal use? How would I know if it was due to a nonconformity or workmanship? I believe shipping the rod to them to inspect would cost about $30 and don't want to waste my time or money if they are just going to tell me to kick rocks. Anyone ever used their warranty before?

I take rods to the Outdoor Pro Shop and they send them back to the manufacturer and they usually replace the rod and just charge for shipping.

Good luck it's been over 2yrs. and they still haven't repaired my reel. I broke it and told them I needed it fixed at my cost. They have pretty funny reasons. I remember the first one the company making there parts couldn't make them right. They have returned it 2 times and said they would contact me. That was almost 2 yrs.

I was the rod return guy when Shimano was in N.J. 30 plus years ago. If there are signs of abuse anywhere around the break they may not replace it. If the rod is in great shape and no nicks around the break, they will probably replace it. Had one rod come back that the guy told me a cow stepped on it, but he thought it shouldnt break so easily. His claim was denied. Another was a bear got into the rod locker after some candy bars. His also was denied. I got a million of em.

I broke a Shimano rod that was a week old, sent it back at my cost and received a new rod but it took 8 months because of availability. They paid the return shipping
