Why does everyone hype the fall bite? I had 2 back to back terrible days this weekend.

Are the fish shocked by the sudden temp drop? Will the bite get hot when the temps stabilize and stop going up and down? The river wasn’t even that cold, maybe 58-60 and it was very unproductive. I fished hard too

Cold water fish like cold water. Something is not right. Maybe you need a better fishing buddy. You call and ask your grandpa why why why?

Match the hatch. When the weather cools large groups of shad go into the backs of the coves. Later in the day especially after it’s sunny use a quarter ounce rattle trap with either a blue or black back on a chrome body and throw passed the schooling shed and bring back underneath them; you will either catch whites or black bass, as they group together.
In addition, Fish a wacky rigged green pumpkin or Shad colored senko on the outside dock corners on 10 pound test, especially on the deeper condo docs.

As the shad move into coves ( as suggested by others) the bass will start following them . My suggestion would be use crankbaits that will get down to the bottom where the coves and oxbows are located off the main river , and then all the way to the back of the cove/ oxbow. Also have some squarebills to cast to rocky / wooded areas. The bass are after shad right now, or whatever shad- type forage is in your waters. They are chasing them and the reaction bite is very good this time of year. They aren’t looking at jigs, worms , etc. as much as shad. These suggestions apply if you are in a boat. And make sure you use your electronics if available. On my electronics, bass are indicated by white dots or slight arches, usually spread out suspended or right off the bottom. If the same applies to your electronics, and you see the white indicators “ stacked up” , that’s not bass. Possibly crappie. If you are fishing from shore, I would suggest soft plastic swimbaits that are skin hooked.( hook is Texas rigged)......My 2cents
