I cant catch anything.

I've been fishing since I was a kid (mostly lakes) but now I've been trying to go to saltwater fishing off piers, surf and hell even rocky cliffs. People would be catching right next to me and im not catching. It's depressing. Got all excited did allot of research trying to target spotfin croaker. First day nothing, second nothing, third nothing all I ended up catching was a cold from the ocean waves soaking my clothes. I cant even catch mackerel and I think I've just given up... I left my pole at the ocean and walked back home. Threw away my fishing hat I was excited to buy. Idk what I did wrong I followed every bit of advice and tried out the best spots and time of day.

There are many days on the water where the fish just don’t cooperate but you have to keep trying. A lot of people on here can give you words of wisdom and get you into some fish. They call it fishing for a reason otherwise it would be called catching. Don’t give up. All things are going to come around with practice

I think he already gave up. He left his rod and went home without it.

It’s fishing, not catching, and I’m not being rude, you are going to have bad days and good days, just because you got skunked on a few days is no reason to leave your gear, hell I went 4 months, every weekend, and didn’t catch anything, and I fish with Matt, do you have any idea how frustrating it is to see your fishing partner real in fish after fish every weekend when you cannot get a stupid bite? As frustrating as it was I stayed positive I kept taking mass advice on specific baits, the next thing you know I started catching fish, Patience is going to be your biggest ally on the water, I really hope you were able to get your fishing gear back and don’t give up man keep going out, you will figure out what the fish want to bite on🎣

You are to kind DC, anyone who throws a line in the water will have good and bad days,To me it is a matter of being persistent, specifically with one particular lake or river that you would enjoy to fish, once you learn said body of water, it will be easier to catch the fish, Not guaranteed, but easier🎣

If you pull your gear in and walk over to a person catching fish, (don't try fishing near them or crowd them first). be polite and courteous. compliment them on their success. Tell them you are having no success. and ask them point blank if they can help you. Most people will jump at the chance to show off what they know. Don't forget to thank them.

Fishing can be sooooooo frustrating...I didn't catch fish for months but I was persistent and now I get it. Somedays it's good and other days it's not. Hire a guide and pick his brain!

Just watching may not be the answer in all cases. Though the water looks the same on top, what is going on underneath may be entirely different. Sometimes, just moving may make all the difference. Say you watch the guy 25 yards down the bank slaughter bullheads and you don't get a bite. What are you doing wrong. You copy everything he is doing and still nothing. Actually you can not copy everything he is doing, because he is standing in a different spot than you. He may be fishing by a sunken log, a drop off or other underwater structure. You cast out the same distance as him. He may be fishing in 7 feet of water and you are fishing in five feet. I could go on and on, but I expect I made my point. Solutions: first watch where he is standing as well as he direction and distance he is casting. Note the weather and time before sunset or after sunrise. Go to that spot next time out when no one is there and give it a try. Also try to find out what is different from where you were fishing. Another way to up your chances is to fan your casts and casting distance searching for fish. If no luck move down the bank 10 or 15 feet and repeat. This is a systematic way to find your own honey hole. Remember the old very true adage "90% of the fish are in 10% of the water.
