So the wife and I were fortunate to have a sleep over for the the kids with the papa and grandma again this Saturday. My father came to the kids soccer games then took them to spend the night at our family camp. Thank you to all you wonderful grandparents!
We headed back to Wellington lower reservoir my wife in search of cats her new favorite fish. And myself to hope for a bass but happy to catch anything.
Made are traditional stop at SHEETZ itโs about 1/2 way there and the wife loves a cheese sub ($2.98) and FRITOS. She has deemed them as lucky! Lol I also got a sandwich and we continued to the fishing grounds. Not bad for date night on the cheap!
Got in the water about 5:10. Later than the usual 3:00, but we where making sure the weather was ok. The better half insisted, I pick my battles! We headed to the opposite end of lake we had our success the week before. We had a good report from another fisherman the week before and we like to explore new area. Started are drift toward last weeks territory. She gave it maybe 30 min and the wife had the bow motor going and we where trolling back to our proven spots.๐๐คฃ๐๐คฃ
We got back into our success area from last week and 10 min later she was catching! She had 3 cats all 1-1&1/2lb in the boat in about 30 min and I was sitting at 0. At this point she explained to me and I quote, โI can really tell the difference between the cheap rods and the good ones!โ She has recently made a St. Crois rod paired with a nice Shimano reel her go to!! Old favorite was a LEWS combo she literally caught!!! (A story for the winter.). She can really cast the St. Crois/SHIMANO with precision.
I must not forget to mention that she also contributes her catching success to her eating of the FRITOS she believes the crunch attracts them. I will say she did catch a few while her mouth was full of Fritos!
Finally my bobber went down and I had one! Unfortunately the line was very slack and as I picked up the rod to start reeling things went a rye ( rookie mistake). Reel was useless I was able to hand line in a 1lb cat but I wasnโt skunked!
We continued to catch 1-2.5 lb cats the rest of the evening.
As I soaked my worms for the cats. I tried plastic worms, top water rage toad and a KVD gobie swim bait for the monster LM my buddy (I trust) swears are there but 0 luck!!
Fish busting all over! Throwing swim baits into boils! I cannot catch bass!! OH WELL!๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ
Had to be off the water by 8:00 because the lake closed at dark. Pretty good for 3hrs of fishing. Final total 9 cats 1-2&1/2 lbs and 2 tiny crappie. Crappie released but the cats were delicious. Enjoying my new early Sunday morning fish cleaning ritual.
๐ค๐ปFor good weather next Saturday going to try New London reservoir for Walleye if things go right.
As we headed out.
Just loved this one!
Kittyโs
As we head in.
Family camp kids went to.
Pond dug last year and started stocking this year. Post this winter.

Good story. Congratulations to wife.
Thank for the pictures. The end result looks like you handle the filet knife pretty well.

Thanks, Iโm pretty good with the knife. As long as itโs sharp. Butchered all my own deer, fish and birds since my early 20โs. Caught a lot of pan fish early this summer and sharpened my filleting skills. The cats even the little ones are really easy to fillet with a great yield and very little waste.

Great evening. I miss good cat fishing here in Western Washington. Have you ever tried chicken rice-a-roni with your fish. I did when I found I was out of rice. What an awesome taste blend of flavors if your body can handle the salt. One day, that pig of a bass will show up out of nowhere.
