Today I put down 5 or 6 fish with my knife and I can't get rid of the smell; what do I do?

Lemon juice and soap and water.
Practice catch & release π. Kidding. Lemon juice & water or just clean with soft scrub (the one with bleach).
It's a fishin knife, it's supposed to smell like that. Be proud of it!
This may sound cheesy, but I use a generous amount of any brand of orange citrus styled hand cleaner to douse the inside of my cooler, scrub a little with a dedicated brush and then use the excess water to run over my knives to keep the scent down. I've got coolers that smell better than the day I bought them 20 years ago, after hundreds of fish being kept in them! Nothing wrong with a hint of fishiness, but when I open a cooler lid on an outing I don't want to faint from the smells trapped inside!

Use your fishing buddyβs knife or one from the kitchen. Seriously and if in the field, keep a few towelettes in with your gear and a few alcohol pads in a Med kit. Just donβt clean anything you're tossing at in the water, and rinse your hands.
