Is it harder to get a hook set with a weedless rig?
Yes… fished weedless for decades for saltwater bass. First, as good as they are catching something to eat, they frequently just miss. It also depends a lot on the lures. Off California coast line, we fish a lot of plastic swim baits from 5-9 inches. Because sometimes these baits are pretty wide, and even with their big mouth it often doesn’t make it inside enough to get a hook embedded. Another tip I have for you is don’t swing to quick as they will instinctively re-position the lure in his mouth and you will just pull it out. It’s a process of time on the water fishing weedless baits to known exactly when to set the hook. Good luck
Depends on the thickness of the plastic you are using and the “gap” of the hook, fishing tournament bass fishing for 25 years and have found with the proper hook for the plastic, the hook up rate and landing percentage is about the same to open hook fishing, hope this helps
