Went fishing today with a buddy. We went to a lake neither of us had ever been to, but was recommended by a mutual friend. It's bit of a drive to get there, then you have to find a dirt road and go about 7 miles in. Like most of the lakes in Utah, it's only about half full. We really need a lot of snow this year or we'll have no water next year.
We limited out in a couple of hours. Released another five or six really nice trout. None of the ones we released were any smaller than those on the stringer. The first picture is a tiger trout. I've never seen one that golden before. They're normally much greener. The weather was in the forties driving up, but it was really quite pleasant, with just a bit of wind. Took the rest of the loop we came in on, came out in Wyoming, stopped for a late lunch and came home. All in all, it was a great day.
Nice day fishing with a Friend, that’s hard to beat.
Beautiful fish Stuco, you and your buddy had a great trip on the suggestion of another buddy, those are good friends. You’re the three amigos!

Nice catch Stuco, and pretty fish. It's great when a tip turns out better than expected. Nice looking lake, albeit a bit low. Glad you had fun and thanks for the pictures.

I have never seen a tiger trout before either, stuco. Are the tiger trout stocked, how about the rainbows?

I think all the fish we caught were last year’s or older stocked fish. Tiger trout are a sterile hybrid of brown and brook trout. I also caught and released one cutthroat. I think cutthroat are the only indigenous trout in Utah.

Thanks Fred. Half of the lakes here are so low there’s no water at the bottom of the boat ramps. We drove by one that’s right off the interstate that’s just a puddle. Water didn’t even look like it was touching the dam. It’s kind of scary.

It was a really great day. We have fun if we don’t catch fish, but I’ll take a day like that anytime.
Great color, beautiful fish. What did you catch them on?

I think my buddy caught his on power bait. I caught all but one of mine on worms. I caught the other one on a spinner. I would be able to see fish chasing the spinner but they wouldn’t take it. I actually caught three in about ten minutes by casting my worm behind a bubble fairly short, reeling it in and watching for a fish to follow it and then pausing. The fish would take the worm right in front of me.
