My brother and I went catfishing last weekend. Here’s some pictures
He landed a very nice, big old flathead, 19pounds!!
I landed a pretty decent channel on the ultralight setup, in a lot of current so it took a while to land, it was a blast of a trip!
Nice report and photos from your adventure! First...hook a "cat", then give it some current to work with...then you're in for a bit of a tug o war! Glad that you brought that beast in and made a lasting memory in the process!

Nice Job Johnston, and beautiful cats. Your Channel must have a battle on an ultralight, especially in a river. Thanks for the pictures.
good going and thanks for the pics. What bait??

Nice looking Cats 89, that must have been a fun run on an ultralight. Thanks for sharing the pics.
Thanks everyone!!
It was definitely a blast, I have an Ultralight light that's 7'6" and you can can feel every tiny pan fish bite on, but you can also land some big fish, that catfish for example, Ive also landed several steelhead between 27 and 32 inches on it, and some bass up to my PB 7.3lbs
For right at 100 bucks it's by far the best Ultralight I've ever owned, and I've had some nice Lamiglas rods before.
I'm getting ready to buy the steelhead version, 9'9" ML that can handle Salmon and big B run steelhead!
Anyone wants info let me know!
We're you fishing the Snake?

The big flat head was caught in the Snake, close to Huntington, OR
The smaller channel cat was caught in the Burnt river about half a mile up stream from the mouth in a special bass spot 😉
Nice, I've caught some mighty nice blues below Brownlee.

You and your brother should probably read the Oregon regs again...... that cat he caught with A LIVE BLUEGILL was caught ILLEGALLY !!
Absolutely NO LIVE BAITFISH ALLOWED IN FRESH WATER IN OREGON !!!
Please be respectful of our regulations. Had you been observed by an ODFW guy or other "water cop", would have been a real bummer for his wallet.
Quite certain that bluegill are also NOT NATIVE TO THE RIVER YOU WERE FISHING, EITHER..... so...a SECOND INFRACTION..... transportation of fish from one body of water to another. This is how invasive species get introduced and the remedy is harsh... as in the need to "Rotenone" Diamond Lake a few years back. You shame the notion that Oregonians are law-abiding sportsmen.
I don't think the above kudos are justified, scofflaws should never be praised. Please alter your fishing techniques to abide to the rules.... obviously fish CAN BE CAUGHT without stepping over the line.... you caught one, didn't you ?
