I fish with plastics, but one day I bought a container of bloodworms, not as bait but as a consolation prize for my catch lol. After removing hook I’d stuff a bloodworm in its mouth and gingerly put her back in the water. Sounds silly but you think they eat it?

naw they probably chocked on it and ended up needing some fish to do a Heimlich Maneuver on it but since most fish can't reach round another with their fins it probably ended up belly up and eaten by some critter that enjoyed having a treat of bloodworm stuffed fish for lunch.
Funny you should mention that. Hunting in Germany when a deer is killed it get the last meal. They don't watch the death throes but when it's done before starting to field dress it they put a hand full of grass in it's mouth. Maybe the thing to do with fish is before you filet them stuff a worm in their mouth! :-)
At the current price of bloodworms, that's a very generous gift.
