The good captain is correct, but here is one more little bit of advice: make sure your leaders have sufficient mass in the butt. In other words, make sure the butt is thick enough so the forward half of the leader can turn over. If it fails to have a butt with sufficient "strength", the leader will not lay out or extend, so to speak. Again, the good captain is giving you sound advice: he knows of what he speaks.
