What do I do when I catch a big fish but don't have a net?

Today I dropped my daughter off at dance practice which is right by the lake so I went out to try out a new setup I put together and tired out some jello covered hotdogs and bam I got a big catfish, probably a channel cat. Biggest fish I have had for years, I could hear the line stretch and twang when I got it close.

I tried to lift it out on the hook the way I would a smaller fish but it was way too heavy and it got away. What should I do in this situation without a net when I'm on my own

The big one I caught I gilled it, too many teeth to grab it around the mouth

I feel like the answer to this is so obvious I mean in reality your gonna have to man up and grab that fish one way or another … next time jus have a glove with you if your worried about their sandpaper mouths

Years ago I went noodling out in Arkansas. Stuck my arm in up to my elbow, and was proud of the bite marks on my arm that evening sitting at the dinner table eating that fish.

Today I dropped my daughter off at dance practice ... (show quote)

I was trolling for kokanee(sp?) in Flaming Gorge and hooked a 42" laker. My net was only 12" so when I got it up to the boat I put the net over its head, grabbed it by the tail and hauled into the boat. I got the job done. The crazy fish pulled me and my 12' boat around for almost an hour. LOL.

Walk as far backwards pulling the fish on to the back. Have done that several times.
