Ten days of camping, hiking, exploring and fishing in Michigan's Upper Peninsula between Munising and Grand Marais. The fishing objective was to try several brand new water bodies that I usually pass by in favor of going to places where I already know what to expect. The targets were mostly small inland lakes, without any development other than a few hunting cabins, that have a connection to Lake Superior in some way. In general, I found a few "gems", but others were pretty lackluster in terms of fish size and population. The fish in these lakes tend to grow very slowly, and are often the victims of "Winterkill" when the ice freezes right to the bottom, leaving only a few random deep areas for the fish to attempt survival. Had to turn back on a few access roads now and then because the truck was too wide to navigate what had become overgrown logging roads and fire break trails from days gone by! I am working on fabricating an overhead kayak yoke for the ATV so that problem should go away by my next visit! Just need to keep the center of gravity "low" to avoid rolling over!
