Ive been fishing since im about five and im fifty six now.Ive caught just about every species in Pa except a Muskie.Ive been targeting them primarily in Leaser Lake and Kearshners creek .Two lakes regularly stocked with Muskie fingerlings every year.People catch them there all the time.I have thrown everything at them and have
never had even one strike. They say they are the fish of 10,000 casts,im at about 100,000 casts at them.Any body have any good tips on time of year and what lure to use.Id love to catch one.Its on my bucket list.Lures Ive tried are Buck Tails,Shad Raps,Baby dolls,#5 Mepps Algias,Spinnerbaits, kitchen sinks, you name it.The fish are there.Ive seen people catch them when ive been there, and Ive seen them porpoise right next to my boat, they give me the middle fin and grin.😆

I feel ya Z. My issue too. Ive been tolt to slow my retrieve and use kinda a sporadic retrieval. Use blue sparkly square bill in april and fade to white by summer. A nice side effect is that othee toothy torpedoes like those also. Im still hunting my first c&r musky. But not guving up.

Kinda in the middle of something right now but I’d love to respond.
I’ve been fishing em for years and haven’t figured em out yet, but get bit sometimes.
I’ll check back in tomorrow.

Pick an area near weed lines and troll the area changing speeds if no success move up speed. Buck tails with big gold spinners are great my best was a Pik-e Minnow don't know if they still make them but the one in my tackle box has teeth marks all over it and lots of memories from my Lake St Clair days.

Best advice I can give is keep at it.
Sooner or later you will find one willing .
Big buck tails offer a good place to start.
Careful in hot water. Mortality rate is pretty high on stressed fish in hot water.

Good luck.

Just my experience musky fishing in northern WI years ago. Pick a cold, a little rainy, cloudy day. Work the edges of bullrushes, weeds and retrieve slowly, varying speeds. Even though it may be more of a northern pike lure, try a large red and white daredevil. I got a lot of action with those including a musky that pulled my boat and snapped the line before I could even do much. It takes a lot of work, as you know, to catch musky. Some guys never do. I didn't. Hang in there.

Zild: I've fished them in E. WA. for 20 years. I've gone up to 17 days w/o a fish, then catch 3 within an hour. They often exhibit intense, very short feeding windows. When they get hot, they will inhale your "kitchen sink". How do you tell when that hot moment will occur? Fish all day! And keep moving around the prime spots so when they do bite, you are in a position to intersect one.

All good advice. Do watch your water temps. Anything too warm and it makes musky fishing tough and it makes them harder to release. That being said, here's a nice way to up your odds. Providing that it is legal to use live bait in you area. Also check how many rods are legal per person. I like to put out a live sucker minnow to swim under a styrofoam bobber. I use the type that is roughly tennis ball sized, there is a hole in the middle for your line and for a plastic peg that the line also runs through. You select your depth that you want the sucker to run and wrap your line around the peg and push it into the bottom of the bobber. When you get a hit the peg will pull from the bobber and you'll be freelining the musky with the sucker. Set your hook and hang on.
I like this method because as long as you've got hooks in the water, your fishing for muskies.
If you are allowed 3 rods, put a small sucker down and one large one. Use your casting rod to cast using mostly bucktails. They are the most effective lure they say.
Do set the hook quickly as the muskie runs off. Don't wait too long or the muskie will swallow the hooks and will perish for sure. Trolling is another way to connect with lots of fish. I just personally hate trolling as I get bored too easily.
Thanks. Good luck.

Muskys are tough to catch generally when the water is at 70 or more there is not much action 60 to 69 seems the best in jersey double cowgirls #9 silver blades with black and silver tails days when cool cloudy rainy light wind is what they seem to like good luck .

Ive been fishing Muskie about 50 years. I taken over 200 in my time biggest being 50 inches. Ive found any lure will work if conditions are right. But over the years i've narrowed my lures down to about four. 1) lure i use the most is a stuick 10 inch with non bouncy. Cast into a bay with grass and retrieve with a long sweeping motion. Let set once it comes back to surface for a count of 7 then repeat. I found and color works as long as its black. 2) a number 5 vibrix blue fox in spring- #6 in fall with silver blade clear water gold blade stained water. Again black with chartreuse. Good on wood and near rocks. Keep your speed return higher than normal retrieve. 3) mepps in same numbers and colors. 4) 9 inch grandma crank bait in perch or fire tiger pattern. Can be casted or trolled near grass edges and over reefs. Again any thing will work at a given time but these are my go to's always. Ive attached a couple pitchers.

A musky story. I was an avid musky fisherman as a kid. Homer LeBlanc a lake St Clair legend made some beautiful lures and I wanted one. I caddied 18 holes double to get the money to buy that beautiful thing. It was 1954 I was 14
I was so excited to get to use it. Everyone knows you have to fish 40 hours to get a musky on (so everyone says) I finally got hooked up but after 5 minutes he broke me off. I didn't use any wire just 40# test line from those days. For a time that musky was the talk of other muskies in Lake t. Clair with that beautiful jewelery hanging out of his mouth. I was out four bucks. Never got another one like the one I had.

Very nice muskie photos and thank you for sharing your tips and background! Good luck to zildgian as you keep at it. I would not be at all surprised if sooner or later, when you least expect it...a muskie will choose your lure and give you a wink at the net!
