So, I havent fished in 7 years or so amd have only ever used a spinnig rod. I want to try fishing more seriously next year for bass, etc, and want to finally learn to use baitcaster so I can flip, throw crankbaits and spinner baits, etc. With the proper gear. Money is tight of course so I'm wondering what you guys would suggest to start out with on a bidget?

I have an abu garcia baitcaster that cost about 65-70 dollars if I recall correctly. First summer using it and it has worked out very nicely so far, only a couple birdnests that were entirely my fault. I recommend watching some videos to figure out how to cast them correctly. best of luck

The lews carbon fire reel is a good one to start with, I'd suggest that you buy the reel separate and put it on a rod that best suits your needs. Do not go out and buy a $20-$30 bait casting reel, it is a recipe for constant backlash. If your budget is that low stick with spinning, you will be a happier person.

There are several great articles out right now about that subject. The market has several great rods in the 40-75 dollar range that you can pair with a ton of great 100 reels to make a good combo, that work's and will last a couple years!!And affordable to beginners or any budget!!!

has the saying goes you get what you paid for ! when buying one make sure you get one with a dial-in anti backlash dial to fine-tune different weights on baits, practice a lot in your yard casting various lures with different weights so you can get use to the speed of your spool adj. knobs on side of reel will also help you on backlashes, good luck a good quality baitcast will give you several years of good service .keep it oiled & greased follow instructions in the box for yearly maintaince.you wont be disapointed.

Diawa cc80. $65 on Tackle Warehouse ( includes shipping ). I have 2 and absolutely love em! They come in right or left hand. I believe the gear ratio is 7:3:1. Perfect for all lure presentations. 🎣

Also, check out 13 baitcast rods on Tackle Warehouse. I have 4 of their rods and for the price ( $60 ) you can’t beat em! My favorite is their 7’3” m/h crankbait rod. 🎣

Abu Garcia Black Max. It was my first baitcaster when I joined a bass club in 2016. I still use it. I take my reels in for maintenance once every 2 years along with all my reels.

Also, a relatively unknown reel company that makes some great budget priced reels is Sixgill. Find them on the internet. I have two spinning and one baitcaster from Sixgill.

Even after 40 years of using a bait caster I still stand in my back yard and practice casting into a bucket it really keeps your accuracy and presentation sharp.

I just did a lot of looking for a bait casting rig. My first too. I wanted something not just for casting, but I wanted to flip and pitch as well as skip under the many docks on the river. AND I had small budget.

I just yesterday ordered a KastKing Spartacus Plus reel for $46 and a KastKing M/H fast 7'3" casting rod for $75 from Amazon. Added 500yds. of 50lb. braid (which this real will take), got a $15 discount on the rod (don't know why, but they offered it just by clicking on a box).

In a few days I'll be practicing with my new tools. In the meantime, I'm on youtube trying to learn how to avoid those inevitable backlashes.

Abu Garcia combos are also good, inexpensive rigs. That's my spinning setup.

Have fun.

Lews has very good baitcasters, put on a 6’6” medium heavy rod. If you find a dealer near you they should have reconditioned ones for $30 to$ 40 good fishing!

Go to Wall Mart ,they have some good cheap combos ,or look for sales at the big sporting goods stores . It dosent have to be high priced to learn on .Get some one who knows how to show you how to use one ,it can get to you learning to use one at first .Dont give up you will get it . Good stuff on you tube too.Using good line will help a lot ,crap line you will stay in a backlash !!!
