What do most of you guys think is the best size and brand fishing rod? I would like to know the action andSpeed of rod for handling 1/2 ounce to 1 ounce lures thank you
Not sure what you're asking FF. Action and speed are generally the same thing when talking about rods. "fast" and "slow" being terms that relate to the "action". I use a 9 foot medium power, fast action rod for steelhead. Lamiglas x-11. The same rod with a little heavier line will do to catch most salmon that I encounter. Lamiglas makes some nice salmon/steelhead rods. Check em out.
I agree with Spirit. Lamiglas makes nice rods. Also might want to look at Okuma SST rods. I own both and both work well for Salmon/Steelhead

Welcome to the Forum, Forestfisher, we would have to know more about the area in which you fish these steelheads and salmon, are you fishing out of a boat, or on a stream, or a lakeshore, are you fly fishing? You would use a different rod for each of those scenarios.
Depends on size of river and how you are fishing it. my favorite is one I made on a G Loomis blank. It was 9 1/2' long casting rod, fast, I used for drift fishing and rated 8-12lb, i think 3/8-3/4 ounce. Could cast a "mile" with it. Did great on Steelhead and Springers.
Thanks guys, I will be bank fishing on the Kenai River in Soldotna Alaska primarily for silver salmon. I did get power and action intermixed. i planned to be lure fishing with spinning combo. Thanks again.

If your spin fishing from the bank try a Lamiglass 8-17lb, 91/2 ft. rod I have two and use them when not bait casting. I prefer bait casting outfits for salmon and steelhead and I'm usually fishing from a drift boat where you can usually use a little lighter gear than from the bank. I've also had a lot of success with lomis bait casting outfits'
I like and use the lamiglass red line rods
