I just bought my first kayak and finally got all my essentials together for my maiden voyage except for my footwear. I know there are a lot of kayak fisherman on the forum and would like to hear what type of footwear they prefer - water shoes, tennis shoes, waterproof shoes or booties, etc. I will be fishing small lakes primarily and it is always hot in Southern California. Any input is greatly appreciated.
Merrell, Tiva, Keen. Watershoes. They protect your feet and provide pretty good support when you're walking around. You basically never need to take em off - they'll go anywhere with you.

That's some top of the line stuff spirit, but worth the price......I need a new pair myself
Life's too short to wear cheap shoes. At least that's what my daddy told me.

My dad taught me basically the same thing; “never scrimp on shoes.” They affect your whole body. For many years, I only wore Red Wing boots for work.

Thanks Spirit. I was leaning toward the Merrell initially but also considering something like the NRS water shoes but afraid those might not be as supportive.
I've had Merrells and Keens. Both are great shoes. The Keens are a bit heavier, very rugged. I really like the Merrells because to me they're just more comfortable. Never worn Tivas, but their reputation is that they are also a good shoe. I think any of those three, you can't go wrong, and if you go with the Keens you'll still be wearing them 15 years from now.
All good advice...You never know when a discarded fish hook, piece of glass, sharp stick or rugged stone will appear beneath your feet. Also nice to keep leeches off! If you don't end up walking too far during a trip, then simple water shoes would probably fit the bill. If you walk more, or have rugged bottom structure, a heavy sole will be a welcomed choice.
I wear crocs but have been looking for something better. I some times fine a spot and walk the bank and need a better shoe. In the kayak itself the crocs are fine

I have a pair of crocs sandals. Very comfortable and I really like them. To the point that I basically wore them out in about a year and a half. Not very durable.
I wear Shimano Evair boat shoes. I also use their boots when the water temp is below 60.
I just started kayak fishing myself.
I spent some good coin on a pair of watersocks (watershoes). They've got a thick soul kind of a mesh upper. Well worth the expense.
I have an old pair of running shoes. They are light weight and when tied on they don't slip off so easy when I get out and walk the bank in mud. Also dry out pretty fast too.

The Shimano sandals look a lot like the crocs - maybe a little upscale even. Never heard of them before but looks like another good option.
