What should I do when I can't even see the hook to remove it?

I was trying to catch trout today so I had a small sized treble hook with some power bait and a catfish took it but it straight up swallowed it. It was deep enough I couldn't even see it and the line was 4lb and ended up breaking pretty quickly when I was trying to remove it

What are my best options in this situation?

Just cut the line as close to the hook as possible. Why are you using treble hooks for trout? Put your powerbait on a single hook, for all the fish's sake.

Don't listen to the negative comments. I use size 14 treble hooks for trout and I also use a hook removal tool that works good. You can find them at the sporting goods store or at Walmart. They are usually red and are about 8" long and have two round heads that you would put your line on and slip it down to the hook and push down and release the hook.

Be ready to eat any fish you catch using treble hooks . That's a sure way of killing any fish you catch. You are new to trout fishing? I don't even use treble hooks fishing for Sea Trout.

I actually remove the treble hooks from my spoons while trolling for salmon and replace them with stainless single hooks. The single hooks allow the fish too close it's mouth and the chances of losing the fish is decreased considerably because the treble hooks will sometimes hold the fish's mouth open and give them a greater opportunity to escape. So, if you use treble hooks because you think they catch more fish, you would be mistaken...you will, however, kill fish you do not wish to kill.

Give the fish last rites and use a pair of pliers to get it out, then cook the fish (cat fish is good to eat)

anytime a fish swallows the hook so bad that you cannot retrieve it thru the mouth, try going thru the gills slowly..it takes patience...
