Howdy,
A friend just gave me a zip lock baggie of live catalpa worms. I've used them before and they are great bait for pan fish but I'm not going to be able to fish anytime soon.
Have any of you ever frozen catalpa worms? If so, how?
That's pretty cool Gordon didn't know that you could freeze Catalpa worms 👍

I've watched a few videos. Some say to blanch them, some say put them in cornmeal. Guess I'll just try it and see.

My dad use to turn them inside out before putting them on the hook.
PapaJ,
I've fished Tawakoni many a time with Catawba worms, caught some Catfish with them.
We would pick em out a Catawba(Catalpa) tree toss them in a Ziploc bag put in the freezer. You can take whatever you need to fish, leave the rest in the freezer. We'd cut the worms about 1-2" long bait a hook . wait for the cats to bite. Just remember to tell your wife about the worms.
Hello from Cajun living in Texas.
When I was a kid in south Louisiana we would pick them catabla worms and sell them for a nickle each, which was a lot of money then. Excellent bait. We had homemade cricket boxes, stuff the catabla leaves in them and Add the catapilars in. Stayed alive for days. We also put some in mason jars one half full of corn meal and about 20 catipilars in , screw on the lid and put them in the refrigerator. Mom was ok with that.
Again excellent bait. We fished everywhere, bayous, swamps, rivers, and Toledo bend. Man to do that again. Hey you guys, take a kid fishing! From stilltrying

Absolute best catfish bait any where any time. I recall August 4th was the time of year to get them off the catalpa trees.

Those little creepiest crawlies flat out catch some catfish.
Haven’t seen a catalpa tree in years.
Great aunt had a tree when I was a kid. Pulled some impressive tree climbing to get em. And catfish ate em like candy.
Had almost forgot about that experience.
Thanks for the reminder . Good luck preserving them.
