Fishing in Tridelphia Lake / Montg & PG Counties

Can anyone tell me where I can fish from the bank that is easily accessible and has a good chance of getting fish? I will need to park nearby (mild handicap-cannot walk great distances) and will have my 4 year old Granddaughter with me, so will not stay long!

What kind of baits or lures work best. Can I pull a small cooler on wheels on the paths?

I have a DNR fishing license and I know she does not need one. Do I need any other permits/licenses to fish this lake? (trout stamp not needed with Senior license)

Does anyone have other alternative spots that we can try in the general area? (Someone suggested lake in Buddy Attick park in Greenbelt, or Lake Artimesia). Is there a sporting goods store in that area that I can ask at?

I am not sure if the trip to the Potomac is worth the effort yet until I see how she does locally.

Thanks in advance

Hi RJ - I was at Tridelphia Reservoir earlier in the year and the areas around the dam are closed to fishing, with the exception of the outflow on the backside. The hill though from the parking lot at the visitor center to the stream is fairly steep and about 1/5 mile distance. The only other easily accessible location on the lake is at the Greenbridge recreation area where the boat launch is located. Here's the visitor center phone for more info: (301) 206-4386, option 1. In addition to your DNR license, you'll also need a day permit. Add to your alternative spots above, Rocky Gorge (Patuxent River) as another nearby possibility. Good luck!

Thanks DC. I think I just read in the DNR newsletter that they had or are about to open the lake above the dam again this summer. I'll have to check. I'll also look into Rocky Gorge. I hadn't thought of that.

I want to take my 4 1/2 year old Granddaughter fishing, so it has to be close; fairly easy access; and ready to leave when she gets bored (15-45 minutes!) If we go and get some good hits, I might just stay longer and use her for bait!
