I joined in February of '65 to beat the draft. After Lackland and Amarillo, I went to George AFB in Southern California where I was a crew chief on F-104's. Then I went to England. Did TDY's in Spain, Germany, Taiwan and Vietnam. Discharged in 1969, just in time to have Christmas at home. I don't have any digital pictures of the M.G, and darned if I know where my prints are. Here's a bugeye Sprite that I had before the M.G. It was basically a go-cart with fenders! It wasn't a muscle car by any stretch, but the girls all wanted to ride in it!

Back in the late-60s/early-70s, those little British roadsters like the MGs, Austin-Healys and Triumphs were considered to be 'cool' cars ! One friend had an Austin, another had
an MG-TD and my younger brother's first wife drove a bright red
Triumph Spitfire ! Back then they
were ALL cool, in spite of being notorious for having constant
electrical problems !

As an electronics tech, I was able to outmaneuver the Lucas electrical system, and got along fine. The S.U. fuel pump on the other hand, was an ongoing problem!

The big problem with British cars (Even a Rolls-Royce!) is that the Brits don't seem to have good quality rubber. Every rubber part in the car (like oil seals, for instance) is constantly - as the English say - perishing. That's why just about every British vehicle you see has a puddle of oil under it.

A A1C in a convertible. SWEEEET.

Glad you made it home especially with Asia TDY's. I only went to San Salvador and Honduras when they were having their turf battles. Funny we supported both sides. Awesome P 51's we gave both sides.

When the Arab-Israili 6-day war broke out, we mobilized fast - but never deployed. You know the drill, break your neck hustling, then wait ...and wait. I guess we weren't able to decide whose side we were on before it was all over.

Went through the last scrabble at Eglin like that. Pack up the shop, go home and wait. Had 6 months to go, new baby in the crib and a trailer to sell.

Never got a call, went to work on Monday just me and the shop chief. I Thank the Lord for looking out for me on that one.

I had a 1969 road runner and at first it was one bad ass car. then they reformulated the octane in gas and it quickly turned into a pile of junk. Does anyone remember when you got blue gas from Chevron?
I was being discharged from the Marines at camp Penilton and I had to go to the North gate in San Onofre for part of my discharge, had a Texan riding with me. From Oceanside to San Onofre I punched it to see how fast it would actually go. Well long story short the CHP had a roadblock set up at the Northgate and when I stopped I asked what's going on and the cop said just wait for a minute. Another CHP come flying up behind me jumped out of his cruiser ripped my door open yank me out threw me across the hood and cuffed me then put me in the back of his cruiser. He asked me how fast I was going I said maybe 80 miles an hour he said bullshit my speedo was pinned at 150 and you were still pulling away from me. The Texan was still in the passenger seat and was asked the same question how fast were you going. well bless his heart he said maybe 80 miles an hour. He saved my ass that day from going to jail and the other thing that pissed him off was at the time I was in the MP's. He gave me a ticket that cost me $180 a lot for 1969 and an E3. I probably would have been an E5 by that time but I had too much fun pissing off lifers.
You had three types of Marines then, those that wanted to get out, those that made a career of the Marines and then lastly the lifers were too dumb to make it on the outside.

No DD, just the right place at the right time with a cop that had to put down his donut seeing it was 6am on a Sunday going through a town the size of Mayberry.

Barney had time to put the bullet in while giving chase.

I even said good morning to the grouch. Didn't do a bit of good $ 125.00 for 20mph over.
