Looking for information on fishing the lakes up here. Name the lake and what species are biting. Thanks.

I’ll be interested in hearing the reply. Many lakes are going to wait till fall cool down for the good fishing to return. I’m planning a trip up there (from Star Idaho) in October. There is a Chinook Salmon derby on Cour D Alene on 7/25ish so fishing must be decent then??

I will be fishing CDA for a week in the beginning of August. We have a guide for the first day then on our own for the rest of the trip. We would really like to learn how to catch Chinook Salmon. Hopefully by the end of the week we will have learned enough to catch them. Wish me luck.

Best of luck Mustang. My guess is gonna be trolling a blue label herring in a hood about 8 feet behind a flasher on a downrigger. Take some crest toothpaste along with ya. If the fish are there and not hitting just smear some toothpaste on the flasher and send it back down to em. How do I know that?😉

Those from Idaho? So the same picture was when you were in AK in previous post. Is it Idaho now? Just curious.

You’re very welcome. That picture is taken in Alaska but salmon are salmon and I’ve done the same thing where you’re going as well as Fort Peck in Montana. Same bait, same process. In a lake or on the ocean you just need good electronics to find the bait fish. Once you do that it’s a matter of controlling the depth of the bait. We are, constantly, raising and lowering the bait to entice the fish. Seems they like it when you switch things up a bit. I use the exact same method for chinook on the Columbia and Snake rivers. Good luck up there and I’ll be looking for some pictures. You’re gonna get em👍

Back from CDA. Fished hard 4 straight mornings before the heat, smoke, and power pigs scared us off the lake. We had one, and only one strike, and my wife landed a 18 lb Chinook. I had two goals: have my wife catch a nice fish, and learn how to catch lake Chinooks. CDA has been slow. They just had their annual tourney and many fishers caught nothing in 3 days. We saw no fish landed at all, except ours. Was told that the fishing has been funny this year. No small fish are being caught and there is worry about next years fishery. I saw tons of fish on my Garmin but could not get their attention trying everything, speed, depth, lures, herring, and the secret Crest toothpaste (thanks for the tip.) I am going to use my new skills to fish local Chinooks.

That's a real beauty! Glad that you were graced with being among the few fishing groups to get one under what sounds like tough conditions! That will make a great memory for you as your objective was accomplished!
