Still a good day BEF, That first one looks like a keeper in training. A couple more weeks and he'll be ready. Thanks for the pictures.

How big they gotta be 'fore you can keep em? California it's 18 inches and we can keep two per day.

What is hanging out of the fish? It looks like an inflator for blood pressure.

Its a satellite tag. They've been doing a study on Hudson River fish to see how far and where they travel to. It's very interesting. It stays on the fish for a couple weeks and then self detaches. They wash up on the beach, people return them, and the information is downloaded. Then they can see where that fish traveled to over that time period.

Here's a map showing where one of the fish traveled to, surprisingly out to the Canyons.

Sorry about the quality

Cool thanks Fred. Oregon puts a tag in dorsal fin. Then if you turn it in they give you 50 bucks and tell you where it was hatched… where it was released etc.

The other day after fishing on ocean the Fish and Wildlife Lady scanned the head of my salmon and it had information or maybe no chip was installed. I know Columbia River Hatchery Fish have chips in their foreheads. Canadians fish for them and keep the Columbia River Salmon after they find the chips in the heads.

If that’s a honey hole and you can’t even keep one, I’d say the expiration date on that is overdue. IMHO.🤔

State record here is 67 pounds or so. Most of our really big mamas run about half that. The smaller males are much more common and tend to run around 5 pounds or so. Fun to catch and some pretty good eating too.

81/15 here, and all ours are in Salt or Brackish water. We don't have any in straight freshwater, unless they go way upriver. None in lakes though. We have to follow federal, North Atlantic rules, and limitations.
