I was missing a lot of fish putting the hook under the ring, inline with the worm. I started hooking a little of the worm, at a 45° angle, and it was better, but the worm gets destroyed after a couple bites. When I saw the Mustads I figured it was worth a try, and found that it's much better. Now I can catch several fish before having to replace the worm. Just make sure that the size you get is very snug on the worms you're using. Good luck and have a Wacky Blast!

Agree with Fredfish on missed hookups when inserting the hook inline under the o-ring. One solution I found is to put on two o-rings so they overlap and form an X. It's at that X where you slip the hook under so it's perpendicular to the worm. Def. increases your hookup ratio.

Standard, diagonal, and perpendicular.

Criss-cross o-rings. I typically use clear o-rings for wacky but used black here so it's easier to see.

Thanks, Maineboy. Do you burn through a lot of baits by going straight through them? I’m reading that with the o rings, you can cut down on some of the damage. I ordered some rings and they won’t be here till next week - but I’m stoked about trying the wacky rig and don’t want to wait that long lol.

I usually don’t. Yum dingers are fairly inexpensive and tough so I find it fine just going through instead of dealing with another step of adding the o ring in just a wacky worm

Whenever I open a new bag, I throw a ring on them all,. That way they're ready to go next time.

Good to know, thanks, Fred! Okay, another question: I’m using 5” senkos - yum dingers. Do you know what would be the correct size o ring for these? Thanks again. 😁

Betts i dont know about the mustad o rings. The ones i use with the wacky tool ( the tube) fits well on 4" to 7". The VMC crossover rings 6mm can be used on 3" not super tight up to 7" that the biggest i have. I never notice a significant difference in hook up ratio. I may when i get a chance to use the crossover rings. I will tell you with wacky rig watch your line. Often fish will get it on the fall n swim off. You won't always feel the bite. If you pull back n it feels heavy set the hook. That's the hard part to learn. The something feels different part. You'll get the hang of it in time. 😄😄🎣🎣

I've been using "Medium " in Mustad parlance, for Powerbait Generals, also 5".I think the "Small "size would be better on a 4" size worm.
Also I used Trokar and Gamagatsu wacky style hooks, with the barbs mashed down. A bigger hook, with a big barb may be hard to get thru the little hole in the ring.

Thanks, Fred.

Usually, the rings will indicate worm size on the package. I use the 3 inch and 5 inch alot, so need 2 sizes rings. The ring and tool are available in both sizes.

Thank you!

That’s one of my all time favorite combos - I like that comparison! Thanks, Bushwacker.

Hi Betts. It is hard to beat pie n ice cream. My grandmother made pies all the time. I enjoyed turning the handle on the ice cream maker. Have a nice evening stay safe 😃😃
