Try chicken gizzards will stay on Hooks much better than chicken liver. Just marinate them in chicken liver blood and/or garlic at least 1 day before in plastic bag. Good luck with it!
Are u using Coolade powder or already to drink liquid
Heck my uncle and dad would make a doe bait out of bread doe and peanut butter and STP oil treatment and catch a lot of cats in flooded areas from river when we were kid’s

I use to use it but quit . I catch just as many without it and it doesn't turn my equipment red. Plus I use just the powder and the powder grains would get on everything. Maybe helps some people but made no difference for me and a lot cleaner without cool-aid.

Never really had luck with mackerel, isn't it odd how different bait works for different people

Caught a 5lb catfish in Murray lake, San Diego, on a chunk of carne asada…
I know crayfish n hellgramites use to work very well for a variety of fish. Cats n bass in particular. If you can find them. Nightcrawlers also work. This was for channel cats in Potomac river

If you use chicken livers let them sit out and good and smelly. Works Everytime. I have caught at least 50 cats using chicken livers. Good luck and tight lines.
If using chicken liver definitely try an egg loop tied hook, easy to tie with a little YouTube practice on whatever hook you prefer and keeps it on the hook

You can try it, but I haven't. I make my bait with chicken hearts and Raspberry jello mix. Just take the hearts and place in a bowl. Shake a box of the jello mix unsweetened over it and mix it up well to cover all the hearts. Put them in a air tight container and place in the fridge for one or two days before heading out. I use one tub or 1lb hearts too 1 box of jello. You can cut the hearts in half down the center to get more flavor in them if you want. And they stay on the hook for a very long time.
There are as many different opinions as there are catfishermen. My experience is that channel cats are the ones that like bad smells. The other two less so. Quarter sized chicken cubes soaked in garlic powder and salt overnight in frige. Then frozen for future use. This works well for blues and flatheads although flatheads seem to like their food fresh and live.
