If the other $15 rigs work, keep them, and throw away the bad apple...

More information is needed for an educated response. Type of reel ? Type of rod ? What you have tied on ? Etc....
Yep.
Be my guess the pre spoiled line may have dig in or has a weird wrap. Somethings over when it should be under. That sort of thing.
Start by unspooling all the line by tying the end to a tree or something then take off walking till all the lines out
Retrieve wile putting moderate pressure on the line.
This was a little trick my uncle taught me when I was 6 or 7
See if this helps.
Not sure of the quality of the line put on at the manufacturer. Most likely not the best.
Get some good Stren or Trilene XL in the weight of your choosing.
Remember , light line casts farther than heavy. I’d suggest 8 or 10 pound
I don’t use mono any more but there is a line conditioner called Real Magic that makes mono a little more manageable.
Once you get the problem figured out, this stuff will keep you going.

So I bought a few budget rods with reels on them from a big box and one of them wont cast farther than like 15 feet no matter the weight on the line. Is this just garbage line or am I doing something wrong? I can manually unspool it longer then it casts but it won't ever throw out farther.

What would be real nice is for you to tell what kind of reel and the line on it is!!!

Mooseman. I don't know if you saw the thread about braid n spincasters. I took a zebco 33 thats been laying in a box for 30 + yrs. Got it out ti find out if you could use braid on spincast. Reel still had original 10 lb mono on it. I didn't clean or lube the reel. Peeled some momo off put 20 lb test spider wire braid thats old as the hills. Put reel on 5'5" Shakespeare rod. Achiveda 50yd cast with 3/4 oz sinker. Next day tried 1/2 oz 37yrds w/o trying very hard. I'd like to see what the results would be with a 30yr old quialty uncleand unlubed spinning reel with 30 yr old mono n junk spider wire on a 5'5" rod. Just curious.
I’m curious also. Let me know how it works out

I would but i don't a 30yr old quialty spinning reel with original line to test. Darn it
That’s ok. I fish for salmon and steelhead a lot more than bass anymore these days. A winch and a stiff rod were fine for hauling those pigs out of the lillies and logs. But casting all day and fighting big fish in the river I need a light sensitive rod that holds up and a reel with butter smooth drag. Modern technology helps these arthritic shoulders stay on the water longer I still believe your experiment tho

Hi Mooseman. I not trying to be a smartass. I just like reseaching n testing. When someone says it can't be done i try to find out why. I do run good gear. My broken up body forced me to get lighter better balanced equipment. I se many that think more bearing mean better reel. I looking at something I've read before. Says 1 good guality bearing supporting the spool is better than 10 lousy bearing all over the reel. When i started spending more money is when i really began checking out everything i planned on buying. Also discovered how many things are owed foreign companies or made out of USA or parts imported n only assembled here. Try cortisone shot for the arthritis brother. I go next Tue to get both hands n wrists scanned. Keep fishing Moose 🎣🎣
😁smartass ok when done in play. No sweat grizzly. I try to stay away from meds for as long as I can. So far my chiropractor has been keeping me going. Good luck on your scans. Hopefully all will be well. Hopefully we both keep fishing and have tight lines. With a smooth drag 👍😂😂😂

Last time hand got messed up it required surgery n 5wks in a cast. I hated that cast. I take cholesterol med n thats it. Cortisone shots in bith knees one 2 in left shoulder n one in hand. I was very sceptical at first. Shot in knee. Tought this stuff didnt work. A few days later i was playing baseball with grandson. Light came on. I realized my need didn't hurt. Stay safe brother keep hooking em 🎣🎣
Right on and same to you brother
Why would a spinning reel spool rotate during a cast? The only time the spool should do that is when a fish is taking drag, or am I missing something here.
No you are correct obviously you’re not missing anything 🤔🤔🤔🤔
Moose..... Thanks, I was a little worried about this, and appreciate you taking the time to respond.
