Went bass fishing yesterday on the Umqua river in Oregon with guide Jody Smith. My sister, her husband and I caught and released over 300 bass by 2:00. So busy catching and releasing the fish I did not get any piectures. If you want a memorable day fishing in Oregon give Jody a call and see what and when he has some fising open.
Sounds like one heck of a fish ๐ story and without pictures thatโs all it is ๐คฃ a story I once caught a fish ๐ so big the picture alone weight 7 lbs just saying
A 300 fish day...wow! That is very impressive! The waters must be teeming with smallies! If you tossed out an umbrella rig I suspect that you could get a double going with that many fish present! Sure had to be fun! Thanks for sharing the adventure on the forum!
I'm not after numbers just a few large types. So far my biggest is a smallie that was only seven inches. I will keep trying and be sure to take a photo when I succeed. Oh, I forgot to mention, my biggest was seven inches, but that was between his eyes! Is that a really large smallie?
Glad to hear someone is releasing Smallies !

Not legal with multiple hooks in Oregon. But I expect you are right.

What were you all using for bait? Must have been what they were hungry for
Congrats on the "busy" trip. While I have yet to go fishing with Jody, I met him several years ago at the sportsman show here in Medford. Since then have made it a point to stop by his booth and chat several times over the years. An incredibly nice and extremely knowledgeable guide, and not just fishing, hunting as well. Always has a smile and good story about something that relates to what you ask about. My buddy went on a turkey hunt with him and is still talking about that trip. The man even offers surf perch guiding ! Glad you and your family got the opportunity to fish with him, imo, one of Oregon's best.
And for those that are impressed with the 300+ fish tally for 3 people.... while that IS the first time I have heard of those #'s on the Umpqua, that's just a rather ho-hum normal day on the John Day River, further east. We Oregonians mostly concentrate on salmonids, but we have most any freshwater species you desire.....and a whole lot of "groceries" off the coast, as well.

It works like this, you catch a fish, bring it to the boat, guide unhooks fish, tosses it back and you go back to fishing. Using plastic worms on small 1/4oz jig head. Some on top water plug, but most on the plastic. Fantastic day fishing, better day catching. Look on Jodys page, picture of my Sis and another of her husband and their smallies. Tom.
does Jody Smith guide for steelhead on the Umpqua?! How can I get ahold of him?
