Booked trip last year to northern boundry waters. Mid August 2021 for 3 weeks. Says I need medium/heavy action set up with 60lb braid. Looking for recommendations on rod and reel choices

I am surprised by the 60lb test braid?!
What species are you targeting?

Sounds like a muskie trip. My pick would be a Shimano Calcutta 400 s.

Well, You are going to run into some slime dogs, northern pike, but there is no way you would need 60# braid. I would go with 15# braid, 10 FC, a rod for a 15# line weight, lure weight of 1/4 - 1/2 oz. and a 3000 series spinning or a 100 series bait caster. Good luck!

Oh, I just saw that it is a muskie trip, forget what I just said or bring two setups along.

Would steel leaders be advised?

Probably not a bad idea as there is a potential for lots of teeth in your future.
Good luck!

I am quite curious as to what lake in the Boundary Waters you will be fishing for muskie. To the best of my knowledge those lakes do not have muskies.

Many lakes just outside of the boundary waters have muskies and there are some in Voyagers National park.

Your 60lb braid is actually an excellent choice. When you are throwing heavier lures for muskies and big pike (I assume "slime dog" might be another anti-pike slur) you will occasionally get a backlash. The lighter braided lines will snap off your favorite lure since braided line has near-zero stretch. 50-80 lb will help minimize that. Good luck
with those essox.
