I want to purchase a bait-caster set up; that being said I have used a spinning reel for as long as I can remember. I know that it will take time to get used to and I’m ready for all the backlash that’s bound to happen. Can you guys recommend me a bait-caster reel that is in the $50-$100 price range, as well as a rod within the same price range to pair it up with? Additional information: I do freshwater fishing, more specifically bass fishing. Want to use it to throw around some hard baits. Thanks in advance, and lmk if I missed any helpful information.

I just bought a lews bait laser sharp bait caster from Walmart for 70 and a Berkley lightning shock rod to go with it. The rods are being clearenced so they're about 40. This is my first bait casting set up.

It is extremely smooth. It has a 6:1:1 ratio and has like double the casting distance my spin rod has. A lot of people also reccomend the Abu Garcia reels that are around the same price due to how similar lews and Abu are

What’re you looking to spend on both the rod and reel together?

Any Shimano 5 bearings or more is a cannot miss but there are a lot of great reels out the but those bait casting reels the you see on EBay that are made in China are a big waist of both money and time. I have been using bait casting reels for over forty years and I average no more the fifteen backlashes a year on my Shimano and Lew’s but those cheap eBay China made reels with a stash of bearings might look good but but they are the biggest pieces of junk that you could ever waist you money on.

Shimano

Lewis

Abu Garcia

I just recently did the same switch after using spins my whole life. I love the baitcaster now! I went out about 2 months ago and purchased an Abu Garcia Black Max combo from Wal-Mart and love love love it!. The whole thing cost me about 65$! It's well worth it.

I purchased a Lews American Hero rod (6'10" Medium heavy/fast) and reel combo at a local sporting goods store (Black Sheep Coeur d'Alene, ID) for $69 and it's great!

Checkout Piscifun reels and rods, they should have baitcaster rods and reels in your price range.
