I'm used to slaying chunky bass out of the local ponds where I used to live, now I'm up in fort walton beach where there's a new kind of fishing, and its making me a little salty (I crack myself up). Anyways, I've been targeting anything inshore that's gonna make a tasty dinner. Lately I've been going after mangrove snapper off the bridges and man are they just evil little bait stealers. Anyways, its a bunch of tiny tiny snapper that are closer to bait than food, anyone got any tips or good fishing places for a newby to the ocean?

As someone who grew up fishing bass ponds,I love snook. They’re like giant saltwater bass as far as where they hide, it’s hard being land based, but if you find yourself thinking, boy a bass would hide there if it was fresh water.... I’d throw n see!

Will they hit lures like bass will?

I agree, snook are my absolute favorite! And you can catch them on a lot of stuff you use for bass. My personal favorite thing to use ( besides live bait of course) is a Zoom Superfluke in Baby Bass color on a Berkley weighted weedless bass hook.

This. You can’t beat a white fluke skin hooked to be weedless.

There is a charter capt out of Pensacole that posts u tube videos by the name of Angler up. He shows the lures, bait and methods he uses. That should give you a good idea for your area.
