Getting started bass fishing, what lures to get?

I'm thinking about getting into bass fishing, what lures should I use? I was thinking about getting a natural color and bright colored crank baits, a white chatterbait with a paddle tail trailer, a white spinner bait with the same trailer, a hula popper and some type of jig and maybe a wacky rigged senko. Any thoughts on this?

That’s a good start. Then you tailor your color and presentation (high/low fast/slow) to where you are and when you are fishing.
Top water (chatter, buzz, walk the dog, popper, shallow run crank (0 to 1 ft)
Crank bait ( 0 feet to submarine depth) base on time, place, weather, etc ( beware cheap baits, they have cheap hooks and often don’t track well) don’t get hung up on the latest greatest, they are designed to catch fishermen
Spinner bait ( get several GOOD ones in white, chartreuse, black/blue) later get specific with blades IF you need a particular speed/presentation with a specific weight; start with 3/8 & 1/2 oz (trailers can be the difference in some waters/circumstances, you will develope your preference)
Texas Rig (OK, I’m old school, now shakie rig?sp?) GOOD quality jig heads in 1/8, 1/4, 3/8 oz (for me this has always been a spinning rod presentation, not like jigs
Carolina rig ( pretty basic, look it up, simple rig and effective) weights, swivels, beads, hooks ; I use braid for the main line and fluoro or mono for the leader
Whacky rig ( line, hook ( check out which hook) and whacky worm) will catch fish when they are very
Jigs (from shallow to fairly deep) light 1/8 oz Bitsy jigs on a spinning rod for smallies to big honkin 3/4oz guys on crane type gear for yankin green bass out of weeds. You’ll find your needs as you go. (Again, trailers can make the difference, just like spinner baits)
Start basic. When you see a presentation that might have caught fish, evaluate it. I like spinning gear for lighter presentations but also will chuck and wind with a bait caster and spinnerbait all day if that’s what it takes.
Try to identify the possible bite and go from there establishing what gear you might want to start with that day.
OK, lots of other stuff but if you master the basics you will catch a LOT of fish.
Good luck and, first and foremost, have fun.

Where are you? Ask the locals and get tips for other fishermen. Everyone has there own personal preferences. When you start catching fish, you will too.
