I’ve really only used braid (powerpro and spiderwire) and occasionally mono in the past. I recently picked up some Trilene 100% fluoro. I spooled it onto a bait caster and the memory was horrible. I haven’t used it yet but I don’t have high hopes. Is this normal? Is there a better “starter” fluoro out there?

Only use it for leader material. I loaded a spinning reel with Seaguar and regretted it.

The higher priced FC like Sunline, have different formulations for specific applications. This is an instance where "starting out cheap to see if you like it" doesn't really apply. That being said, FC does take a bit of getting used to. If you are only fishing occasionally, I would stick to mono & braid.

Yes there are better. Trilene isn’t exactly known for being good fluoro, at least not around my area. Sunline, suffix, and seaguar make better lines, in my opinion. My personal preference is sunline. Know that all fluoros will hold some memory, especially in the stronger weight classes. Its just the nature of the beast. But a better quality line will hold less memory. Also, you might consider a line conditioner. There are several brands on the market that work. My preference is the KVD brand. .......My 2cents.

Oj I'm with you on seaguar also vicious. I picked up some when grander went out of business. I find both to stiff for what i do. I've been using BPS XPS 100% floro. No problems.

I have a baitcaster with 12lb Seagar flouro. Yes, it seems to have a memory. Yes, it seems to spool up uneven and under my thumb it feels rough. But I have been using it since middle last year without a problem. Casts great. Pulled through some tough snags and hasn’t broken for any reason. I tie direct to lures. Relaxes on the water. You won’t see the memory issue when using it.

Jwid. 12 lb is what i have in seaguar n vicious. The vicious really seems stiff. I'll try the seagaur again. I only paid $15 for i think its a 600yd spool. 👍

I agree with Chuck56 he has hit the nail squarely on the head… Pick up a can of the KVD fishing line conditioner and spray your line and let it set for 24 hours… Then take the reel and rod outside where you can tie the line to a secure object… Then back the line out while under tension of the reel, while removing all of the line until it is down to where you have connected it to the spool… Then keep stretching when it’s completely all off the spool…Not so hard as to break the line… Keep it stretching out for a few minutes and then start reeling the line back onto the spool while still under tension until you have all of the line back on to the spool… Spray some more KVD line conditioner, let it set for a hour and then put a casting practice weight, 1/2oz. Or 1oz. will make easy to cast… You should see good progress with you casting… If want you can stretch it out again, that should resolve your casting issues… Good luck 🍀 with your FC.

Best approach is to use braid or mono, snd only use flourish for leaders.

My friends and I have had really good luck with Berkley Vanish. I've tried several of the other brands but keep coming back to Vanish. Plus it's one of the better priced FC's. But everyone will always have one that they like better than the others, so keep trying them till you find your favorite.
