Well, I agree to a point. People worrying about getting the floor wet or slimed or their muddy boats and my response is "it's a boat - it's supposed to get wet" but outside of that I try to be conscious of taking care of it as it is brand new ( 2019 Lund Impact) - so, a little give and take

I also agree. That was my point. When I first got mine it was like new and I really tried to keep it nice. It's 17 years old now and the sun has really taken it's toll on the old girl.
I have always kept it covered when not in use but I use my boat more than most people do.
Now, I just use it and don't worry too much about it.
I really want to get it re-carpeted and maybe even some new seats and a new trollin motor and a new fish finder... then again, I say , do I need all that to catch fish? Hmmm?
How much do you need to spend on all the improvements before you say, Maybe I should just get a new boat.
What do y'all think?

For me I keep em clean and treat em right. It will look really nice in 17 years I am sure but will also need new carpet etc.
I just try to keep up with keeping it new while still using it as intended. A losing battle for sure but that's how I am wired. 2010 Ford 150 with 95,000 on it. 2nd year for my boat. Was out 68 times last year, 21 so far this year.

I just ordered a cover today. It is a real well made and expensive cover and will handle the riggers of wind and travel. I am going to leave it on. Tired of cleaning to bugs off the windows and front of the boat. The dust and dirt from construction is awful. Security for my gear will improve. Glad to hear about the gas mileage improvement. I had not thought about that.

someone from motor trend did a windchamber test on every truck made at the time, with the gate up and dowm.....found out the difference for mileage was negligable...meaning its another one of those ol wives tales. You dont think the manufacturer would do all the bench testing first in their designing, and then prove it for themselves with the test vehicle? A reason why they try to use all kinds of optical tricks in taping and covering the test vehicle to keep other private eyes from cheating on their designs. Now if you have some type of cover, or cap, or even a tarp...it does improve but not to the extent of some claims

I cover my Bass tracker in winter in the boat shed so the leaky roof doesn't drip dirty water in it and dust doesn't collect on it. In Summer I leave it open to blow scales and sand out coming and going !

I'm the same way Bapa. I have an 18 foot, 2004 Bass Tracker. The carpet is shot on it and needs to be replaced and now I've been fishin in it so much I don't even bother with coverin it unless it's gonna sit for more than 2 days.
When I fish I take it up in the trees and wherever I think the fish are and don't worry bout branches scrapin the sides.
I take my gear out when I'm home cause it's stored outside.
When we land fish and fish blood or fish slime gets on it I splash a little water on it maybe to wash it off a little but I don't worry bout it. As I tell everybody I fish with, " It's a FISHIN BOAT."
When we're done for the day we pull the plug, take all loose stuff out, strap the rods and the boat down and we're on the road.
Last Friday when Jim#1 and I were out we saw my partner Steve and his friend Gene. We got off the water right after they did.
We pulled up near them to strap down and were ready to leave in no time. Gene was still wiping his boat down and spraying boat shine stuff on it or something.
I told Steve, See what happens when you've got a high dollar Bass boat. The nicer the stuff you have the longer it takes you to do anything or go anywhere.
Jim and I were probly home, 30 min, and Gene was probly still polishing his boat.
I just have a "Fishin Boat".

Alright FD. I think you will really like that boat. I know I do.
The guy I got it from ordered it brand new with the upgraded 60HP 4 stroke instead of the 40 it comes with.
I'm SO glad he did. It's been a wonderful boat and motor.

Mine is a 50 hp 2 stroke but I think that’s plenty for me.

Rarely covered as when trailering it was probably going fishing. But for long trips, covered. We found out through experience (loss) that when trailering the interstate EVERYTHING must be secured or stowed. If not then you will find things missing when getting there or getting home. It took a few trips for me and my fishing partner to figure it out. If trailering in heavy rain then cover or leave the plugs out. You’ll get nasty looks when your bilge pump starts spewing water into the next lane! Yeah, that too.

FD. I will tell you one thing about carpet. You won't believe how fast a hook can get stuck in it. Glaston has carpet tracker all aluminum. Carpet you vacuum metal just hose er out. Either way enjoy it brother. I'm like Saw. I don't beat my boats up but i will put were i need to be. I can get into some skinny water with my jet. Have fun😁😁🎣🎣

If you have life jackets and other things that can blow out, cover it. If no rod storage compartments, I would keep expensive rods/reels in the vehicle during travel. If you are parked overnight at a motel, keep expensive things hidden in the vehicle, or bring into the motel.

It depends is your boat cover made to fit your bass boat in other words does it snap on or do you have to strap it down all over if it’s designed for your boat I would leave it on till I got to the boat ramp where you are gonna fish especially if you don’t have everything completely locked down and secure you don’t want anything flying out your boat and damaging a vehicle that’s behind you it will ruin your whole trip if it’s more like a tarp where you have to strap it down every where your better off leaving that type at home and make sure if you have rods either inside your truck or in your boat where there’s rod storage and totally locked down one time after a long day fishing I was feeling a little lazy and left my rods on deck just pulled straps over them while stopped at red light this loser crossing crossed behind me and tried jacking my rods if I didn’t have the tie down straps on he could of been gone my average rod reel set up is approx $200 to $400 bucks so there’s lots to worry about when trailering your boat but you’ll learn the ropes quick I assure you that don’t forget to put your boat plug in

Some covers are “trailerable” some are not. Ones that are trailerable say so on packaging and product description in catalog and online sales. Ones that are not say they are not to be used while trailering boats. If you’re not sure, don’t use the cover while traveling. This is not something you want to find out about the hard way. Driving down the interstate at 70 mph and have it come off onto someone’s windshield or hit a couple on a motorcycle could be catastrophic. Keep expensive easy to steal equipment in your truck. Stuff that can easily blow out ( and almost everything can) secure it very well.
