Got back from a tiring day in Old Lyme. Weather forecast this morning, beautiful day with 15-20mph wind, WHAAAT? Guess what, they got it right. Wasn't rough water but the 20mph gusts made boat positioning nearly impossible, so it was a lot of work. Only a few boats out,and didn't see much catching. Couldn't find any in the 76°shallow water, so concentrated on the deeper water, and dropoffs. Zigzaged my way to the northwest corner, only catching a couple young bucks, half to three quarter pounders. Flipped a dock with a 15ft drop off just outside it, and got the only decent fish of the day 1lb 14oz. Fished a normally productive Lilly Pad patch with no results. Just after I passed it I heard a big splash and saw a wave in the pads. Did a quick 360, and threw the frog a couple times, had a massive blow up, and the frog went about 3ft in the air. Did another 360 and threw another 10 times but no more activity. I wasn't happy
Did another 3/4 lap around the lake and caught a couple more dinks, and called it a day.
Oh yeah, saw a couple guys at the ramp with a nice Bassboat, they got squat.
Wasn't too bad coming out of the creek where the ramp is
Water level is full pool.
Windier up in the north end
5 little guys like this,1/2-3/4lb
One decent fish, 1lb 14oz

FF, I’ve had many days like that and sometimes no fish at all. At least you got out , smelled fresh air and caught a couple. I was doing honey do lists. Glad that’s done…… for now anyways.
Great day of fishing, catching not so much. OK, another fun day😆 I spent my day having lunch with a bunch of folks I used to work with, then stopped and looked at some trailers to replace my 28 foot Jayco.
Thanks guys, still better than work.

Way to go Fred. Thanks for Sharing the pictures.

Very nice catch Fred! Congrats on a successful day! Good luck and be safe!!
Great story line report of your day on the lake, along with nice photo imagery! Yeah...wind can sure be a bugger! Nice that you did have some action, but not that you had to work hard to make it happen. I suspect that you'll be back to that lily pad spot with that rubber frog! Sounds like a big fish hanging out in there! Hope you "get'em" so we'll know how big it was!

Thanks Fishyaker, I'd love to hit that spot again tomorrow morning, but it's an hour and 20 minute drive. Besides work beckons. Maybe during the summer.
Hey Fred. I went out fishing on the river last year in early May. It was windy as hell and was blowing the boat down river almost at trolling speed - the trolling motor had to be on high speed just to hold the boat in position. It was just a fight that I didn't want to be in. But, I got home and was talking to the guy across the street and he asked me if I had a drift anchor (which I have never heard of so I didn't have one) but I looked it up at Bass Pro and basically it's a hydraulic parachute that you tie a rope to and throw it out and as the wind pushes you down stream, this thing opens up and acts like a break to slow the boat down - kinda like an open umbrella in the wind in reverse. They got different sizes depending on the size of your boat so my lady got me one just because she thought I deserved it. It may be a gimmick (like most of the fishing and golf stuff is not a gimmick) but it folds up nicely and fits in it's zippered bag and hides in a small space so you really don't notice it until you need it. Check it out dude!

Yeah Harry, I still have my "Drift Sock "from my days of Fluke fishing on the Sound. In a river it should work good, but today it was shifting from NW, to NE, and back to strait N, all day. Dam near wore out the remote on the trolling motor.LOL.
The valley on either side of the river basically turns it into one big wind tunnel so you really don't get any cross winds. It either constantly blows up or down river. I've been out there and it got you the point of white caps. That was kinda scary.

Yeah then the drift sock should work well for those conditions.
