Using wrong knot?

I've always used the Trilene knot to attach swivels to line or hooks to line & haven't had an issue. I changed my leader coming off my PowerPro braid with 8# flouro from my old 6# mono. #1 it seems smaller in diameter & seems to break easier. My biggest critique is every time we didn't land a fish, it was that my knot that gave way at the swivel. Thru the eye, back thru the eye, and save a loop, wrap 5-7X's then back thru loop created.
Is there a special Flouro knot that I should be using? Thx in advance... Lost 5 landed1... :(

I don't use that knot, but lots of folks do. Only thing I might suggest is make sure you are cinching it down properly. Anytime I do line wraps I wet the knot with saliva before I lock it down. I'm talking mono or flouro, don't wet a braid knot

Gotta wet it. Heat from friction will weaken the knot as you have experienced.

Yes, in fact you can break a overhand knot of even 15 to 20 lb mono if you don't moisten it. The friction of the knot probably takes more than 50% of it's strength. Just Sayin...RJS

Slug, I tie 8lb,12lb, and 15lb Fluoro with an improved clinch knot. As long as you lubricate it before cinching it down, it works great. I have never had one fail.

Try an Orvis knot. Easy to tie and it cinches down more easily with less twisting and heat. It’s also reportedly stronger that an improved clinch knot.

How old is the mono? That could be a contributing factor if it's old.

The Palomar knot has good breaking strength and is an easy to tie knot. As stated above, with virtually all knots, it's wise to wet the line before sinching the knot down

I have used several knots over the years. My favorite is the "Uni knot".
Great for tying on gear and make a "double uni" to splice two lines. I believe this also called the "Duncan knot"

With flouro to tackle or either mono or flouro leader to braid I use the uni knot. The cinch knot can cut into the flouro and weaken it. Even with ample lubrication I have lost more than one rig to a cinch know with flouro. Cinch knots work well wit mono as does the Palomar .

I think your describing a clinch knot. I use it all the time for tying leader to swivels and have never had a problem unless I forgot to clinch it down tight and moisten it.
