Kayak fishing: Are bed extenders required?

I have a short bed f150 and just got a 13' yak? I know some states require bed extender s for certain lengths but I worry more about potential damage to the boat with half hanging off. Do I need to worry or just strap it in and not worry?

I have a 12’ nucanoe frontier fishing yak. It’s heavy, wide and stable. I use a bed extender from harbor freight, and bungee the yak to the extender. The extender actually makes putting the yak back in my truck easier. It was a good investment. Also remember to put a flag or marker on the back of your yak when transporting. Here in Texas, if whatever you are hauling extends 4ft or longer past the end of your vehicle , a flag or marker is required....My 2cents

I have a 2016 Dodge RAM Rebel with a 5' 7" Short Bed and I use a Boonedox T-Bone Extender. It works great!!! There are also some other options that you can get from Harbor Freight for much cheaper. I went with the T-Bone because of the design and curve of the bar underneath. With the one's from Harbor Freight, I have heard of some people hitting ground with their extension because of where the bend/angle of the bar is underneath. Either way, if you feel comfortable that that will not happen with you, get the one from Harbor Freight :-)
I also put a bright red flag on the end of my kayak when transporting and a flashing redlight at the end when transporting at night. I've been doing it for over 5 years now and haven't had any issues (Knock on wood) LOL!

I have a frontier and use one from harbor fright also for my β€˜13 vibe, it does make it easier to load and unload. I just feel safer using it.

I have a Hobie Pro angler, 12ft.
I found a cheap jet ski trailer. Best investment for me.
